Suspenders

Believe it or not, suspenders have helped me with my social anxiety disorder. Before I started using suspenders I would tuck my shirts in and use a belt to keep my pants up. But my beer belly would require me to loosen my belt when I was seated. Now with suspenders, I don't tuck in my shirts anymore and I can leave my belt loose. This helps a lot with the deep breathing I need to get thru anxious times. I wear the suspenders under my dress shirt and over my undershirt so no one knows I'm wearing them. But a little thing like this has helped me a lot. Breathing is taken for granted, but it helps.

In the UK we call those 'braces'. When we say 'suspenders' in the UK we think of what ladies use to hold up their stockings. 'Pants'...well that's another matter!

I actually wear braces with my suit. I'm quite slim so I don't have to worry about hiding a stomach, but I do rate them very highly for comfort. They also make your trousers (sorry, pants) hang a lot better. Belts I've always found uncomfortable.

People do make fun of them, but I think it's good to be a bit different and set trends rather than follow them. If David Beckham and co wore them the world would view them differently, I'm sure.

I think they're very stylish and create a nice retro, jazzy look.
