strange panic while driving?

For some reason, when I'm driving along (especially on the freeway), I get a strange sensation in my head, and I feel panicked. Sometimes just seeing other cars triggers it. I get worried, and it's hard to drive when I feel like that. It's hard to make it go away. :x

It's frustrating because I used to drive all the time. When I turned 18 and I bought myself an Integra, I put 50K miles on it the first time I had it. All of those miles came from just cruising around southern california, up and down the coast. I feel like I can't even do that anymore. I can't even accelerate quickly because I'll get that sudden feeling on panic, and I get worried that I might pass out. Can anyone relate to how I'm feeling?

Cliffs: Can't drive like I used to. Can anyone relate?

hey BobbyV..i get a panicky feeling when i'm driving..but for me, moreso when i am stopped at an intersection...with other cars beside me and i don't quite know what to do with myself waiting for the stupid light to turn green..seems like it takes forever :!: ...or if i'm at a really busy four-way stop or something, and i'm so paranoid to go out of turn...argghh...and i'm afraid everyone else is watching me..shit like that makes me nervous :x

I only just got my licence, and i too seem to be having troubles which i think relates to my anxiety. Because i tend to stress and worry, and have lots of things on my mind, i tend to just accidently look past many dangerous obstacles and such, say merging lanes and round abouts. it's really dangerous, and i'm hoping this has nothing to do with my anxiety, however me being a learner.

Yes yes yes. Unfortunately driving is so essential in our world. I can relate, except I was never very calm about driving and never really liked it. You see, I do not have a great sense of direction  and one of my biggest fears is getting lost. I second guess myself and get panic attacks on the road sometimes which isn't just inconvenient, it's dangerous.

Your mind doesn't have much to focus on while driving. Your mind can wander and that opens the door for panic attacks.

With SA added to the equation driving can be very difficult. For me, especially at stoplights. I try to stop so my window is not lined up with the cars next to me because I don't want them to look at me...It's weird. I get cold sweats, thinking that the whole world is judging me and I'm trapped in my car at a stoplight. I turn down the radio so no one can hear what music I'm listening to....Plain ridiculous. As if anyone really cares that much. I wish people could walk or ride horses or something.
