Something strange that my English teacher brought up today...

Well, we were talking about vernacular english and my teacher used the example of how 'we' (the students in my class) speak differently with different people- with our parents, teachers, and friends. Everyone laughed and nodded in agreement. I was just confused because I talk the same with everyone, all the time. Do you guys talk differently to your elders? Are you supposed to do that? I'm so confused! They should have a handbook for this stuff.

Don't worry about that, I don't speak in a really different manner to my friends than to my parents. As long you feel at ease with the way you speak to your parents or friends, why do you have to worry and why would you want to change it?

Are you worried about not acting the way your english teacher said? Your teacher made a generalization. It's not true about everyone and there's nothing wrong with not fitting the generalization. But I definitely call my friends dude and use more slang around them than around my parents.

I refuse to speak like a Bogan... If you refuse to speak with clarity then you don't deserve to be listened to IMO...
