'Safe' behaviours and routines

Every so often I realise how badly I stick to 'safe' behaviours and routines, and therefore how much I'm limiting my life.

I tend to wear the same type of clothing- jeans and a T-shirt, visit the same shops even though the service is sometimes rubbish, stick to eating the same foods, and end up doing the same things on a weekend.

Sometimes its enough to drive you crazy!

Do anyone else stick rigidly to 'safe' behaviours and routines?

yeah I'm with you grumblina, before I go somewhere I know exactly what im going to get, so I get it and get the hell out of there. The only place I really just browse stuff is if I'm renting a movie, but even then I know at least one thing I'm getting. I also follow routines in my life, and worry if I don't get them done, or if something different happens...kinda plan all my days out. Also, like you said IceLad, I always wear pretty much the same stuff...during winter, it's a white t-shirt with a fleece or hoodie over it and jeans. Summer it's shorts and a white t-shirt...once I change to shorts for summer I don't go back til' winter :p

IceLad, you're not alone.

I tend to do the same freakin thing.........I'm seeing my youth pass me by and I know I'm going to regret it.

I'm living the life of a damn nun.

I would never dress up to get attention. Always the same jeans on the weekend and pant suit on the weekdays. I've had the same hair-do for the last 5 years to avoid getting attention with a new haircut.

I actually make myself unattractive so guys don't look at me---and women don't envy me.....My life revolves around how others think of me and I am customising myself to not be a threat/appeal to them.

I am beyond curable..And I'm only 25. That's when suicide thoughts take over.

I have to have routine, wear the same stuff, or type of stuff. Have other dress-up type clothes, but usually end up wearing jeans. I always drive the same way to work, park in the same spot 8O .....go to the same store, same gas station(cause they pump it for me 8), follow strict routine with what I eat... it's bizarre really...but I would feel way too anxious if I strayed from it  Am I weird or what??? :?

Maggie,

I know a cat that always wears exactly the same lime-peel on it's head every day, so no, you're not weird (well, yes, you are really  )

Sorry to dig up such an old thread, but it seems pretty relevant to what I am feeling these days, especially about clothes and appearance.

My problem is that I am usually only comfortable in casual dress pants (khakis) and a button-down shirt tucked in, but with summer fast approaching, I am really wanting to get a bit more casual with my style, you know, shorts and a t-shirt at the beach kinda thing.

I dunno why, but I am always afraid that people will judge me on my "new" style (even tho I would be doing it to fit in more, and know that I look weirder dressing the same as I do now and more people would think "who is that crazy guy wearing pants at the park playing frisbee...")

Any tips on how to break out of this and simply not care about what others think? I am not in the greatest shape, but I am thankful that I am not any larger than the average person out and about...

Thanks guys.

Maybe you should just try buying some cloth that's a little more "wild".. or just buy what you think looks nice. I'm more of the opposite.. I buy a little to crazy (or plain ugly?) cloth so I end up not wearing much of it.

Buying new clothes isn't a problem, it's wearing them...

I go thru this too. New experiences cause me such a problem that I avoid doing them. 1 of the reasons Im hopelessly single i guess :(

We build our sense of happiness and security in a changing world which is why we like to stick to what we know, things that are usual, normal, safe.

The question is how much risk do we want to take? Taking risks is no more different or safer than taking no risks at all. We may walk out the house today and get run over but we still risk it by crossing the road. We dont walk a hundred miles around the road to get to the other side without taking the risk of being run over.

So why do we risk some things and not others?

For example, why dont we tell everyone how we feel? Where's the risk in that? We know we wont get run over by anyone right? But we choose to walk around the hundred miles because we fear the other drivers!

hey Septor,

I was curious...

what is it about new things that you dont like?
Is it that it doesnt interest you or something's bothering
you or what not about doing new things? if so, what is it?

Wowwwwwww,I can totally relate with you on this issue! Im exactly the same way. I eat the same foods every week, I wear the same conservative type clothing, jeans and a t-shirt with no logo's. I used to wear hiking shoes when I was younger, but I changed to casual shoes..wow, big change! But Yea, I drive the same routes also to work, but today I actually found a new route to work...but it was by force because the regular road i take is under construction 8O But I like my new route. I go to the same store, same gas station as well. I do the same stuff and it drives me crazy. I actually really enjoy change, but yea, I get anxious thinking about changing my habit. Anyway, my name is Jeremy and Im 24, nice to meet you all. I live in Canada:D
