Hi everyone

Does SP usually happen to people with lack of social skills or lack of confidence? I personally don't have confidence in my ability to interact with people. I don't have problem being around people as long as I don't have to talk. When I try to talk to people, I sometimes will get weird faces from them like I'm speaking another language. When I have to talk a lot, I usually get SA symptoms like blushing and nervousness. Should I try SSRIs? I know in some SP clinic, they offer social skill training, anyone know what it is like? I heard CBT is good but I'm not sure if it's right for me because I think I just lack social skills and confidence.

Thx

Harry

well i'm sure that lack of skills could lead to lack of confidence and the other way around, and both could lead to SA, it all depends. CBT is very helpful, i've been in and out of it with ALOT of success - but that's as long as you're willing to work at it.

SSRI's can be dangerous, right now i can't seem to get off paxil, check out www.quitpaxil.org and make sure you want to get into this stuff. it worked wonders for me but know the risks.

no I don't think sp happens to people who lack social skills I used to be very popular and outgoing before sp. I think being overly sensitive will increase your chances though.

what's it like taking paxil? Does it really make you more sociable?
Anyone know what about social skill training in SP clinic?

paxil lowers anxiety levels so you're more "yourself". it doesn't make you someone you're not, it makes it easier to be the person you really are.

keep in mind that not all meds work for everybody but there's enough out there for something for you to try. the side effects are annoying, and the withdrawal is terrible if you try to quick too soon and it takes a while for your body to start to produce your own seritonin.

anyway, if i were you i'd start with square one and see a doc and consider counseling. my main symptoms of SA was blushing and sweating too so i know how you feel :)
