I recently had to visit my grandad at one and I worked myself up really badly, I just get really scared of them! I was just hopin that there was some1 out there who had already seen a phyciatrist and could tell me what its like? Im not looking 4ward to the awkward questions! What do they ask you? Il probably cry too cos im really sensitive. its embarrassin!! :(

Hey scaryfairy, seeing a psychiatrist is always nerve racking. i hated crying the in office but unless you're actually getting help for your probs then you can pretty much just tell them that you're either depressed or have anxiety (if you're there for meds) and they won't pry too much. if why you're going affects your everyday life then it's no prob. they'll just ask you alot of breaking the ice questions and history and whatnot, then you'll be on your way. but for me, i've never gone very in depth detail with a psychiatrist, only a counselor has asked me more personal questions. good luck and let us know how it goes :)

Hey scaryfairy, at least you have the guts to go to psychiatrist to get the help you need. And at least you can go in there and talk, I would never be able to do that, (not yet, anyway). And crying is a very natural reaction, don't feel badly about that. Good Luck! :)

Hey, I'll let you in on a little fact that may (or may not) help you. Psychiatrists as a profession have the highest suicide rate of all. What this means is that they tend - as a group - to have plenty of personal issies themselves.

So don't feel overwhelmed by the prospect of baring you soul to one of them. Besides, it is their chosen employment so that is what they deal with all the time and you would just be another case to them. Also around three percent of the population has SP so it ain't like its all that rare.

been there, done that!

the not so scaryfairy!!hiya fanx every1 4 replyin. I went the physciatrists this morning ans it wasnt bad at all :) i was really freakin out about the questions theyd ask, but i was fine with everything he said! Yes i cried, but its just beacuse I find it hard to talk about what I feel, but at least I cam talk about it I suppose. Personally, even if you have doubts, I recommend seeing a physciatrist. They are trained in what they do (lol even if, like u say, they are a little messed up.!) but isnt it better to talk about something that is troubling you?
got to go back again, but im not scared AT ALL. Glad i made another step to getting over my panick attacks and phobias

Hey watz hapinen dog, i bin to a phyciatrist before, i have a lot of f*cked up sh*t in my life. Like one of my probs is cusen. And other sh*t. I'v actuly bin in a hospital before 2. its true i am pritty f*cked up but i getting help wasnt 1 of the bad things i did in my sh*ty life. i hope other people can find the bright side to things. if only people relized that suicide isn't a way out. SUICIDE IS A PERMANENT SOLUTION FOR A TEMPORARY PROBLEM. I fowned that one out myself. Have a better life than me!:(
