I used to, but i've been doing it lately when I go out to eat which isn't that often. But my problem moreso now is that I don't have a particularly loud voice and I hate shouting because it draws attention to me so it can get embarassing when they say 'sorry, what was that' a couple of times, and you have to repeat it again and again. Especially in loud or crowded restaurants, which I try to avoid, but sometimes for an event, like a birthday or something similar, where I have to go along.

I don't have that problem really, unless I am unsure how to pronounce something. But I hate when they bring *chicken* enchilada instead of *cheese* because apparently they didn't understand me.

I Don't have a problem with ordering at a restaurant if i'm with some one but when i'm alone,I have shaky voice and they usually don't understand what i'm saying first time and I have to repeat myself. :(

yes, in the past i have usually asked whoever i was with to order for me. though there have been days where i have felt confident enough to place my own order, though there are times when i am asked to repeat myself, which can be extremely discouraging. :(

Don't like ordering in a restaurant at all. I take the easy way out when I'm with someone- get them to do it.

i don't really like to order things for myself, but if i have to then it's not too bad. i also sometimes need to repeat myself, which is annoying. i think it's not necessarily because i'm speaking too softly, but i just tend to slur my words when i'm anxious.

arghhhhhhh yeah I hate thissss, I always got my hubby to do it for me but now I do a bit myself here and there. I've realized if you make a mistake they probably don't care, they see and meet much worse people than us lol :p

Betty,

My friend is a waiter.

He tells me loads of stories where people shout at him, treat him like dirt, abuse him, refuse to pay the bill, this all makes him really anxious and stressed out, he wants nice kind softly spoken people who are a delight to serve, it really makes his day.

I sit here wondering how many times you have made other people happy by just being your self, too many times to count i reckon, you just would never notice. Sometimes a persons vulnerability makes other people so relaxed and and much more humane. Next time you order food, think of how anxious the waiter is feeling and then smile and say how are you? He's probably hoping you're not the third customer to shout at him that day.
