My boyfriend has a problem with obsessing over things and something else (were not sure what to call it) and were not sure what it is. He's suffered over it for a long time and we don't know what to do.
What happens is, I do something that upsets him and he blows it up, makes it so that its a lot worse then it really is. He just cant stop thinking about it and thinking about it. He gets so upset and he thinks about it weeks after and brings it back up in conversation, creating a big fight. These fights happen almost everyday now and we don't know how to stop it.
the last thing is that he'll get thoughts that he needs to do something, and its always something silly like resetting his alarm clock, that if he doesn't do it, he doesn't love me. and he always has to check his alarm clock, to make sure he wont be late for school and he has to check if theres anyone on the top bunk of his bed and he always needs to know where his glasses are.
he also connects everyday things to something bad happening. like if he doesn't go check the mail, he'll get grounded or if he doesn't clean up the coffee table. or that we'll break up if he doesn't do those little things. and he feels that if he doesn't do the things that he tells himself to do, he will get in trouble.
does anyone know what this is? and how to help cope with it?
