Not going to work.

Does anyone else here experience problems with their job? It is hell for me, especially since it is retail so I have to serve customers all day.
Thankfully it is only part-time, so I only go there 3 days a week but occasionally I just can't bring myself to get on the packed bus on the way there and then see so many random people at work. Anyone else like this?

Today I called up and said I couldn't work because I felt sick. I'm not really obviously, but I honestly don't think I could have survived today if I had of went to work. :(

I pretty much spend the final hour before I have to leave for work just walking around pacing myself wondering if I should go or not. I usually decide that yeah I can make it and then I'll leave and come back 3 minutes later with my heart racing from anxiety.

It's only like this some days though. Usually I'm fine for work.

I get anxious every day before work, also. A couple of times I've felt so stressed out that I've felt the need to cry while I was in the car driving to work. I've been playing "Anxiety" by Black Eyed Peas every day on my way to work and that helps a little.

Do you get really anxious whenever a customer with an angry-looking face approaches you? I mean the ones who maybe aren't angry, but they just look that way? I've noticed that I start to blush and I instinctively back away a little when I approach a table and even one of the people there looks like I'm the last person they wanna see.

On the plus side of retail, if you don't work commission, at least you don't have to depend on the customers to get paid. I work for tips so I absolutely have to be nice and sociable if I wanna leave with at least minimum wage by the end of my shift. Sometimes I wish I could just run and hide in the back.

Thanks for replying. I don't mind if the customer is angry, since I usually look angry anyway so if anything I feel less awkward. ;)

That sucks that you work for tips. I used work for commission in phone sales (telemarketing) a few years ago - now THAT was hell!

Yeah, I think the term "Professional ass kisser" is more befitting than "waiter" or "waitress" since that's pretty much what I do all night at work. "Here I am, bend over *mmmmmmmuuuuahh!*" lol. Maybe that's why angry-looking people scare me so much, cause I know I'm going to have to make these people happy to prevent getting stiffed or getting a complaint put up against me.

I can imagine that telemarketing would be hell, cause then there's no denying when you've made someone mad..and you still have to continue your pitch. Plus if you're an SA person who fears the phone...sounds like being in a perpetual pressure cooker

Maybe those angry-looking people are just as anxious as you are and they don't know they look angry XD.

I sweat when I have to call somebody on the phone. But at that job the computer dials the numbers within 3 seconds after hanging up from the previous call, so you are calling like 150 or 200 people a day without having a chance to stop, so believe me the fear of calling people soon disappears. It's come back now though, lol.
