I never heard of it. I agree with everything you say. Therapy/counseling would be the best for both of them. You should look it up, do a google search and find out if this disorder exists. Also, I would think about going to another doctor too. This is strictly a behavioral problem, meds are unnecessary. Seek counselling/therapy.
 
I think my brother was diagnosed with it a while back, but I'm not sure if he was put on any meds for it. He just naturally rebels against adults or any authority figures, and usually tries to do the opposite of what is expected of him. Although, he's not entirely like that anymore... he's 20 now, so maybe it's something you grow out of, but he still questions everything- which could be good or bad. It sounds like though in this case, if it is only directed at one person, it's not likely to be the full disorder. I also question the validity of such a disorder... it seems like what will eventually end up happening is every possible personality trait/quirk will be psychologically classified and medications pushed on people for them... which is ridiculous.
