I'm going to a party!! Oh no...

I'm extremely nervous! One of my friends who's an exchange student invited me to her 3 person birthday party. I want to go, because she's a great person, but I hardly talk to the other 2 girls. The girl I talk to invited people that I talk to, but the other girls have totally different friends in my grade. I'm rarely at parties where there are guys there and that makes me even more nervous! Of course drinking will be involved, but I'll probably chill with the group that's not drinking. I'm just scared that a bunch of drunken arrogant people will ask me who I am...I never go to parties that aren't hosted by my friends. I'm calling this summer 'the summer of change,' because I'm sick of SA, so not going to the party isn't an option. I just need tips on how not to have a nervous breakdown!

I usually drink a little to loosen up, not too much that I lose control though. Maybe try to talk to the other girls too. A good way is to start off with a compliment. Introduce yourself. Talk to them at the beginning of the party so you don't feel as awkward later on. Read up on some popular topics before you go so you'll have something to say. Don't over think things - parties are a time to have fun. These are all just suggestions. Hope they help. Good luck!

Thanks Dan, I actually used the compliment idea to just about everyone I met :D It worked pretty well! I met quite a few new half decent people! And I'm very proud of myself! Although, I made a fool of myself crying like a baby at the end. The friend whos party it was is an exchange student from Germany. She's been here for a year and we grew pretty close. She's leaving to go home tomorrow. I've never been that upset to say goodbye in my life! Oh well though, I don't care, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks!
