I don't think I'll ever work.

The year was 2004 and I just graduated magna cum laude from college with an engineering degree. I was 26 (I hid away for many years after dropping out of the ninth grade. 8O ) I worked extremely hard to prove that I wasn't a moron. I also, found that I liked college because:

I could get away with not saying a word to anyone and noone seemed to care.

Anyways, I graduated - many job offers passed (I didn't answer the phone,) and one day I decided to give it a shot. A guy calls up, tells me to show up tomorrow for an interview. I show up. I get hired that day. He told me since I seemed quiet that I would work on the computer all day. I would just have to go in the shop to punch in and out. Sounds simple, huh? But did I mention it was a shop. I almost got killed in there! Apparently, it's not a good idea to NOT talk to red-necks. It was suprising the first couple of times when one of them would yell "Hey man, what the hell is your problem." Also, the first week a guy (the boss' son) told me that I seemed like a guy who would kill people. (actually I thought to myself, oh yeah your kids are first. )To make a long story short. The place freaking sucked and to make matters worse, they decided (after two months) that I was going to answer the main phone, and call people over the intercom. WTF? I'll repeat! The main f'in phone! I told them I didn't go to school to answer phones. I was fired the next week.

I haven't worked since...

Wow, I said "I" wayyyyy to many times in those couple of paragraphs. I, I, I , IIIIIIIIII

Sorry you got fired!! but do you really want to work in a place full of red neck jerks, and what sort of a freak tells someone that they look like they would kill people? ( I have heard that myself) Life seems to be full of assholes, and no, its never a good idea to ignore hillbilly red necks, in my experience, the female ones especially....with all their kids by multiple partners, its like walking into a lions den.
You're right though, you didn't go to school to answer phones, you'll find a job one day....You're just going to have to wait for it probably

Out of curiousity, what branch of engineering did you graduate in? I've just graduated myself in mech eng. But anyway...yeah in my final year at university, a new lecturer started. He was very very quiet and I always overheard people bitchin' about him, saying that he could be a serial killer. Boy I wanted to strangle those people right there - how dare they make such an offensive accusation just because the poor man is quiet!

I suspect in your situation its more a problem of closed mindedness, ignorance and fear of change, fear of somethig they don't understand.

They obviously didn't know that. Doh! Are you looking to stay in the field of engineering?

Try writing a post without using the letter I...it's impossible! :p

Haha, I've been at my job for over a year, and yesterday I had to answer a phone becuase I was the only one who could get to it. It was for someone else in the store, so I went over to my manager and told her that I had no idea how to page someone, just so I wouldn't have to go on the intercom. She looked at me like I was an idiot...
