Hyperthyroidism and HH

I'm curious if there's anyone with HH who has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and if so, if the HH was alleviated when the hyperthyroidism was treated or not?

Hi,

I've suffered from HH all my life and a couple of years ago I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. I underwent a treatment (first with Betablockers - Propanonol, for two weeks, and then with Carbimazol for a year, with a once a month blood test), after a year my levels were back to normal and until now. I get tested for hyperthyroidism every year, so far so good.

To your question: my hyperthyroidism didn't affect my HH. It was as though they were two completely unrelated conditions to the exception of 'normal sweat' which would appear easily on my back and forehead when doing any sort of activity. That is to say, because I needed to use more energy to just move around, I would sweat easily on my back and forehead where I do not and never have had HH).

During that whole year my hands, feet and armits (where I have HH) sweated as usually.

Hope this helps.

Yes it does, thanks a lot.

Still hoping the underlying problem of what is now called idiopathic or primary HH is diagnosed soon. This stuff can not just be genetic...

Someone any ideas?

I'm thinking the possible link with diabetes is very interesting. And I don't mean sweating from diabetes but that many people that have HH have relatives with diabetes, and I mean type 1, not type 2. Maybe there are just a lot of people with diabetes but who knows? If there are any HH sufferers that want to get together and have some medical tests done to find out what they have in common medically let me know...

That could be our best shot...
