Hello people,
I just wanted to introduce myself - I am a 41 year old male from Swindon and have a social phobia which I have diagnosed myself.... I feel it is not as bad as some people on here, I sometimes feel I am making a fuss, but I also see similarities in the stories I see and mine.
All my life I have problems with interacting with people, but not severley, I get away with what I can.... I have had a number of relationships, friends, etc but like I said, only so far.
Right now I have a house, a great girlfriend of 8 years, 2 cats and 2 kittens.
I don't have many friends, through choice, actually, come to think if it, none! I do work however, and know people there and get on very well etc. It all sounds like nothing is wrong - however, my problem is when it comes to having to do things that put in the limelight. People may say that everyone has that, outside of my comfort zone etc, but personally Ifeel my situation is a bit more serious than that. If I am asked something infront of some one I clam up, my mind goes foggy, my mouth dries up and my heart beats like it's going to leap from my chest, and of course I can't get my words out. Yet I can speak! A couple of times I've nearly fainted too.
The job I do is phone based and it is really awkward, and really embaressing, I get the same symptons when some one new is in the office, or it's quiet and I'm the only one talking.
Anyway, that's enough for now!
Regards,
Neil.
