BELOW IS AN EMAIL IVE RECEIVED THAT I FOUND WAS HELPFUL......

Many people believe that anxiety is the CAUSE of how they feel, is something they HAVE, or is an illness or disease that is CAUSING their physical and psychological symptoms.

Many also believe that they may HAVE anxiety for the rest of their lives, or that it can only be treated by medication. Some doctors and medical professionals also believe this, and unfortunately, tell their patients, as well.

Some drug manufacturers would also like us to believe that anxiety is a disease. They spend a great deal of effort and money trying to convince us of this.

Unfortunately, beliefs like these are inaccurate. The truth is, anxiety is NOT a disease or the REASON for how we feel. Anxiety is a BYPRODUCT or RESULT of how we think and behave. Essentially, the thinking patterns and behaviors we’ve learned and use CAUSE us anxiety.

Encarta World Dictionary defines anxiety as:

nervousness or agitation, often about something that is going to happen
a subject or concern that causes worry
the strong wish to do a particular thing, especially if the wish is unnecessarily or unhealthily strong
a state of intense apprehension or fear of real or imagined danger.
From these definitions, it becomes clear that anxiety is NOT a disease inside of us that causes us to think and act this way. BECAUSE we think and act in these ways, anxiety results.

Anxiety is produced from how we’ve learned to think (the thought processes that we choose to generate) and behave (the actions that we choose to use) in certain situations and circumstances.

That’s why anxiety is not a cause or disease, it’s a result. Anxiety is CAUSED by behaviors that are unhealthy (a disorder in our behaviors: a behavioral disorder).

Since unhealthy thought processes and behaviors are learned, those who work to replace unhealthy behaviors with healthier behaviors, reduce and eventually eliminate their anxiety, and the resulting condition. That’s why anxiety IS reversible with a high success rate of over 90% (the remaining percentage represents those who choose not to do the work required to change unhealthy behaviors, don’t have access to the right information or help, or choose to remain ill because their illness is providing some benefit to them, such as compassion, love, comfort, or an excuse not to behave appropriately).

IF anxiety were a CAUSE or BIOLOGICAL DISEASE, we wouldn’t see such a high success rate simply by changing anxiety-provoking behaviors (studies show that cognitive strategies provide lasting anxiety relief, far above that of medication therapy that has a high rebound rate). For example, if you were to break a bone, the bone wouldn’t instantly heal by changing a behavior. That’s because the body requires sufficient time to repair the bone. With anxiety, you can have an instant positive effect simply by changing one or more behaviors.

All of us CAN learn healthier behaviors. When we do, anxiety disappears. Again, anxiety IS a result, NOT a cause. When you change the cause (behaviors), you get a different result (reduced or no anxiety).

Having said this, there IS a biological component to anxiety. However, this biological component is largely a result of anxious behaviors too, not the CAUSE of them.

Yes, anxiety is caused by a behavioral disorder (use of unhealthy behaviors).
And yes, not only is it possible to fully recover from anxiety, anxiety has a very high recovery rate of over 90%.

Those who diligently apply the right strategies get better. If you feel your full recovery is blocked or has stalled, the help of an anxiety coach can be invaluable. They are trained to uncover the reasons for continued anxiety. They can help you identify the unhealthy behaviors blocking your progress, and can help you learn and apply healthier behaviors that can eliminate your anxiety.

Anxiety is ONLY long-term when the right approaches aren’t learned or applied. When they are learned AND applied, anyone can eliminate their anxiety…and for good!

crazy assed world we made..no wonder we so stressed out.

REHOLLA, that was a very good posting on anxiety. I read something similiar to that awhile ago and i agree. APPARENTLY, the vast majority of our illnesses are the result of stress and anxiety. In my opinion, we all live very unhealthy and unnatural lives. Unhealthy becuz of the poisons we breathe in and the crap we eat, we pollute our water, earth and animals/vegetation we consume. We live unnaturally ...we think its natural to live in big cities, work 8-14 hour days, sit and negotiate traffic , be surrounded by concrete, asphalt, cars and all man made things. We line up, make up rules and laws, create recreational drugs, taxed from birth till death, make up relegions ...but heyyyyy.....the weekend is coming up..lets get drunk and or high and we can go throw peanuts at the ''dangerous and stupid'' animals we got in cages at the local zoo. Maybe if you are lucky, you can catch a great white shark giving a blue whale the fin up the ass for $7.99 at DISNEY'S AQUATICWORLD AND SHOTGUN EMPORIUM. Stress and anxiety is what is slowly poisoning us, and our body responds with all sorts of sickness and disease. IT'S ok tho...you can always go to a doctor and be presribed a drug or two to make you feel a little better, never cured...just enuff to make you keep coming back so you can continue the routine day after day..till you reach 80-85-90.....hmmm....117 years of age----in a retirement home with alzheimers and your poopie diapers. Maybe the monkeys we keep in the cage are actually glad to be there...safe and secure, laffing at how fucked up we are..thinking...''wow.....we are related???''. I bet my bananna on it.

ANXIETY

Reholla,

I liked this post which was sent to you.

On the surface it seems reasonable and true, however it is not entirely accurate.

I encourage you not to believe what is written here by myself but see for yourself whether or not this seems accurate from your experience. Once you correctly identify the mind of anxiety, you have made incredible progress. Most doctors, psychiatrists, scientists and behavioural therapists have good basic knowledge of how it works yet fail to understand the basic inner workings of cause and effect.

Anxiety is a state of mind which is unpeaceful and uncontrolled, it is characterised by feelings of mental pain and fear which can cause physical symptoms. It is the response due to mistaken appearances and conceptions which consequently induce anxiety. External conditions are not the substantial cause of anxiety, they can however contribute to anxiety arising.

Please disbelieve me, see for yourself.

For example, you are walking through a field at night, its dark and you come across what appears to be a snake on the ground. Because of this appearance you generate anxiety. But, in your confusion what actually appears to be a snake is in fact a piece of rope. So because of mistakingly apprehending the piece of rope, you generate in your mind a conception snake, which doesnt actually exist, it only appears to and from this anxiety arose. You can use the example of a spider and piece of fluff if you wish.

Take being on this website. Many of you are not experienceing anxiety right now but can sit and chill, why? Because the appearance of "other people" is not being generated so strongly in your mind like it would if we were sat face to face, so therefore you are not generating any strong conceptions to what others think about you.

Similar to the snake anology, where we mistakenly see the rope as a real snake and develop anxiety, when we see other people what we really see is a projection of our mind, not eveyone sees each other in the same way and so we develop mistaken conceptions in our mind regarding others.
We create all sorts of mistaken conceptions; such as they think bad of me, they are judging me, they dont like me and we relate to them in this way according to our conceptions.

There is no one to be afraid of, you are not afraid of anyone. There is no situation which frightens you. All of these conceptions are mistaken. Why?

Because the mind of anxiety is present when these things appear. And when the mind of anxiety is present, it causes mental pain and fear. This results in us wanting to avoid people and situations. So no-one or no thing from its own side has any power to make us frightened, that comes from within our own mind. The external world acts as the contributory cause but is not the substantial cause, that comes from within our own mind.

Avoidance is one of our great enemies because we mistakenly believe that the appearance of others and situations is what causes us so much hurt. The truth is and i ask you to think about this for yourself - We never avoid anyone or any situation, we seek to avoid the mind of anxiety arising strongly because we dont want to feel pain and fear.

Everytime we become anxious it stores a seed potential in our mind a bit like a memory to become anxious in the future. This is why anxiety arises very often for us, our mind is full of these potentials. They act as the substantial cause or source of anxiety. When the conditions for this seed potential to ripen come together, it ripens as anxiety and mental pain. The contributing causes are other people, situations. So if we avoid these people our anxiety doesnt actually go away because the potential to become anxious is still there. The way to overcome our anxiety is to recognize it, reduce it and abandon it within the very space it appears, our own mind. You reap what you sow.

This is very simple.
