Yeah so I suffer from social phobia I think and I'm in 9th grade but I'm 17 because i skipped school, did drugs, and when I did come to class I put my head down all day without talking to anyone...everyone called me sleepy lol...but now I'm going to an alternative school but I would graduate when I'm 20/21 do you think I should drop out and get a GED or should i stay in school?

Stay in school. Even though you are "just" in an alternative school, you can still have some great experiences until you graduate. You'll be rubbing shoulders with others, learning socially, and learning academically. If you leave, you might lose motivation for getting the GED. If you drop out, it will be just another way that you will be different from the rest of the world.

Your experience will be what you make of it. Sometimes when I visit the library, I see kids who are from alternative high schools. I see them flirting with girls, getting phone numbers, interacting socially. It makes me kind of envious. Because, although I was valedictorian of my high school, and an honor graduate of my college and grad school, these so-called "maladjusted" individuals know more about what's worth knowing than I do.

Stay in school, try to be a good person, stay out of trouble, study hard, get a girlfriend. You'll turn out alright.

Don't allow yourself the opportunity to set yourself up for something you'll regret - like drop out of school. Finish it up, and give yourself more options later.

I think in certain cases, it is okay to drop out, especially when you have the drive to finish your GED right away or when the school system just sucks (i.e. you are not learning anything when you have the desire to). If you don't have the motivation, then you won't finish your GED and, consequently, your life will be set up for poverty.
If you just don't care about learning now, then what makes you think you will take the GED seriously?
It is very important that you get some kind of certificate, GED or high school diploma. With either, you can go on to college or at least get a decent job.
I guess I would need to know more about your situation before I say it is best to drop out or just stay in the alt school...

Yes. Don't drop out. It only makes things worse down the road, both socially and financially. Stay in school, get your GED and then maybe go to community college and from there you can go to a university.

Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you thank you. I couldn't have said this better myself.

I_Fail_at_Life, once you graduate you might never use 99% of the academic stuff you learn in high school in the real world. However, if you pay attention to the other students and learn something about social interactions, flirting, etc. then it was worth it to hang in there and stay in school.

Not everyone who is good at school sucks with chicks. I know someone who had straight A's, accepted to top schools as an engineering major who is excellent with chicks.

It all depends what you have done in your free time. Learning social skills should be (I think) easier if you have a good job.
