Try some ACT books like: The Worry Trap: How to Free Yourself from Worry & Anxiety using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or Living Beyond Your Pain: Using Acceptance & Commitment Therapy to Ease Chronic Pain or Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life: The New Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

I didn't realize there were two posts with the exact same heading by the same poster, so I'm adding my response to the other post...

I recommend reading:

"Wherever You Go There You Are" by Jon Kabat Zinn, (meditation)

"Attacking Anxiety and Depression" by Lucinda Bassett, (focuses panic attacks and touches on depression)

"What To Say When You Talk To Your Self" by Shad Helmstetter, (for self-esteem)

"Pulling Your Own Strings" by Wayne Dyer (for self-esteem).

All have an audio version (except "What To Say When You Talk To Your Self").
I've listened to all the above and read Shad's book, I highly recommend them all.

Theres a series of books..All called "overcoming" then the problems so overcoming depression or overcoming low self esteem. And theres one called overcoming shynes and social anxiety which i have myself. If im honest i find it quite hard to read and get into.. because its got alot of information.. and is quite technical.. and its by a doctor who uses c.b.t as his like main strategy.

But if you think you would have the like will power to force yaself through it i reckon it could help... it comes with charts and all sorts which you can photocopy and print out to help record and monitor say your anxiety levels when your in various situations or like charts where it gets you to write down the negative cognintions you have then it gets you to fill in the section with more realistic helpfull thoughts, lol its a bit like a d.i.y cbt course. If you find it usefull id recomend you get the overcoming self esteem one aswell cos i think thats a big part of social anxiety and anything which goes into greater detail is good.

There only like £10 in the uk and quite popular so you could probaly get one cheap on amazon or somthing.

The best book I've read out of a few is Painfully Shy by Markway and Markway.

The only book i've read that i think is better than that is the anxitey and phobia workbook (fourth edition)
By Edmund J.Bourne P.H.D. it's about £17

But Painfully Shy is more 'human' to read, if that makes sense.

I'm trying to find something to help with emotional awareness to, understanding my emotions and why i do things.
Gary Zukav Mind of the soul, Responsible choice is good if you're into that.

good books...?

"The Road less Travelled" from M. S. Peck.
It is perhaps the best book I´ve ever read. It helped me to get rid of severe depressions and look at the world another way. I think if you give it a try you won´t regret.

That book's actually available for free viewing online now from Google books:

The only problem is, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to print it out.

I'm a couple of chapters into a book called Mind Over Mood by Greenberger and Padesky. I like it a lot so far. I've learned a lot already, and the exercises are very unintimidating. There's nothing like "OK, now go out into an anxious situation for 20 minutes and record the results":D. And the exercises aren't as tedious or homework-like as I expected.
