Getting Fired Soon...

I have only been at my current job for about 4 months and I am getting the warning signs of being fired already. Despite trying my hardest, they think the quality of my work isn't there. They describe me as being a loof and not willing to mingle with the team. The sad thing is that I have been working really hard on the social aspect as well. I guess my best isn't good enough.

I am not sure what type of job to even pursue. I earned a B.S. degree in college/uni. I am interested in computers but never really studied too in-depth in any subject. I took a few courses in V.B. C++, ASP, and dreamweaver/flash. The flash stuff was kind of fun even though I don't consider myself an art person. I didn't enjoy the programming as much as I thought I would. After data structures and calculus II I was done with the idea of becoming a C.S. major.

I want to work toward something that I can REALLY enjoy. I mean, I know it's work and all but at least if there is some joy in what you do. I don't mind starting on the ground floor if it something I was into. Most career tests I take states that I A) like to work alone B) like to investigate/research things. Add SA into the mix and I wonder where I would pan out.

It would help if there was a SA institute on the east coast. I need communications skills that would help my personal and 'professional' life.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe they won't fire you. I am constantly thinking this is the week they fire me, but 2 and a half years later I'm still here. My boss knows I have social anxiety disorder and I guess he understands when I don't mingle and stuff.

If you made it past Calculus II, then the worst is over. Programming is definitely something that we usually do on our own. I'm even fortunate enough to be able to work from home once or twice a week. But I.T. isn't all fun and games: continuous training, no exercise, cubicles, meetings, no sunshine, etc. I kinda wish I had become a park ranger or something outdoors with exercise, fresh air and sunshine. But for now programming is paying the bills so I'll stick with it.

And remember the old saying: when one door closes, another opens.

Google around for voluntary work organisations in your area and see what takes your fancy. I did some last year and it really boosted my CV and helped me get my current job. Once you scroll through a list of voluntary job ideas there may be something there you never considered before. I really recommend doing it!

I can't imagine them keeping me. I have been warned a couple of times about my work performance. This time I had to sign something saying I was on a 30-day probationary period. I don't like the job. Even though I don't like it doesn't mean I haven't been trying. :(

I like the idea of volunteering. However, I am kind of in a pinch where I need some money flowing in.

i went through 6 jobs in 2007 alone an just quit from my longest one in october. It was a call center thing it took me 2 months to feel comfortable with the people i was around then they move me to a totally diffrent group of people so i just quit i couldnt deal with the anxiety.
