Generalized Social Anxiety Disorder

Hey everyone, this is my attempt at analyzing the etiology of General Social Anxiety Disorder.

What is General Anxiety Disorder

Someone mentioned in one of my other threads that GSAD is more than just a phobia. Well, they were right, it's a complex phobia. GSAD is an obsessive, and irrational fear of criticism or rejection by other people in a wide range of situations, brought on by an underlying fear of being "defective". The anxiety disorder is complex because it has two components, a general phobia and a specific phobia. In contrast, Performance Specific Social Phobia (e.g. fear of speaking, fear of bathrooms, etc) is a simple phobia in which the person fears that they will be embarrassed when subjected to criticism in a specific situation. In both cases, the phobias are "social" because the phobic fears the appraisal of other people in social situations. The difference lies in the generality of the anxiety provoking circumstances.

Subtypes of General Social Anxiety Disorder

2. Fear of being stupid or foolish.

3. Fear of being ugly.

4. Fear of blushing.

5. Fear of spasming.

Chained atelophobes dont have specific fears of being stupid or blushing which are activated by general social situations. Atelophobia by definition is a non-specific fear of being incompetent or defective. I suspect you just have fear of being stupid or foolish, that causes you to feel defective and thus worthless. Am I right?
