I know its not SA related, but hey seriously if you are good at poker you can make so much money from poker online, which is perfect for people with SA.

When I was at school, up to the age of 13 I was one of the best chess players in the country for my age, I used to win lots of tournaments and made some money from it, but I lost interest in it because I prefered to play golf. But I read that people who are good at chess and backgammon usually make good poker players, so I started getting into it.

I watched poker on tv quite a bit at first and studied the game from books. I then started playing online and was quite good. Within a few weeks I went to play in a poker tournament in a casino, sat with 10 strangers on a table playing poker was a bit nerve wracking, but first tournament I entered I came 2nd out of 110 and won £625 ($1250) and now I have really learnt the game and make money online. Its a nice way to make some money. I even last year was thinking of working part time and playing poker to make up my income, but I went off the idea.

Does anyone else play?

I place once a month at my mates house, there is usually only about 4 or 6 of us, they all want to go to a real casino but i couldnt face it.

I used to play it online but ive lost a few pounds doing that, but that was when i didnt really know what i was doing, its an idea though so i might get back into it :)

Which online site do you use? can you reccomend any to ue and any to avoid?

Well I think most recognised sites are fine and good. I play at Pacific Poker which I think is good because it has so many different tournaments, but a friend of mine who also plays poker who I play poker with too, doesn't like that site.

Playing at the casino was really exciting but I was anxious at first, but its a really good way to put yourself around lots of people and mix with people, but these tournaments at the casino usually cost quite a lot to enter.

I think playing with your mates sounds like really good fun, over a few beers. Unfortunately I have only played it for a couple of years and its been a while since I drifted away from my old friends.

Good luck if you play online, enter the small stakes tournaments and sit & go's to begin with, when you realise you are getting good up the stakes to win more. I find that if you have a good solid game, playing a text book game, then you will make more money. I usually make about £100-£150 per month from poker, playing small stakes sit and gos ($5 games). I think those sort of stakes are the best, because not only do the best players play much higher stakes, but $5 stakes can still win some nice prizes.
