Do you socialize as poorly online as you do in real life?

Not at all..

I don't even know what to write back just now

It's a little easier online. I'm better with forums and emails than with chatting, as I have more time to articulate what I'm trying to say. There are no awkward silences when I'm thinking of something to say. The anonymity helps too, I can't be judged for my appearance or lack of eye contact.

That's not to say I don't have anxiety. I hesitate before posting or clicking "send", I reread my messages over and over making sure there are no mistakes or anything that could be misinterpreted. For instance, it took me over fifteen minutes to compose and post this reply.

I'm better at socialising online. I'm better at IMing than posting on forums. Emails come somewhere in between.

Same here. I wish I could be more spontaneous with my posts, I bleed all the life out of them with the rechecking and editing. The fact that it's seen by so many people and that it's around for so long make me anxious.

Yes. My hands sweat even in an indirect encounter.I'm forcing myself to write anything--now i'm gonna hide.

Yep i have trouble making friends in every way possible. Gosh i hope people don't think i come off as stuck up here, like in person.

I have almost equal amount of trouble writing here as speaking in the real world for a few of the same reasons. I see that alot of people here seem to know each other and are friends and I can't help but feel like an outsider like I don't belong here but I'm sure it's all in my head.

god, yes!! >_<

I love talking to ppl online..
feel more comfortable that way obviously..
cz u dont see each other face to face..

I don't feel like I belong anywhere... but there's a line I read somewhere that goes... 'reach out a hand and you may find a hand that reaches out for you'... or something like that. Basically just try and connect with others... A lot of times nothing happens, but sometimes you may get a pleasant surprise and a friend.

I tend to only ask ppl question instead of making a real conversation, but it's not just my fault, the other person isn't saying much either

Don't worry feelings of inadequacy follow me everywhere both online and off.I have no friends in real life and none online either. It is simply the way things are for me. Yeah, it can be a bit hard to swallow but try just believing in the fact that you are you and that is good enough.

Both online an irl suck for me..

I find I can socialize better online because it's not speaking to someone face to face. In the real world I clam up and can't say a word and I guess being very shy doesn't help.
When I first got online back in the mid 90s I jump right into chatrooms and forums without thinking twice. Hiding behind a computer screen makes me more confident or something.

I'm alright on a forum, better one on one on messenger. The difference with real life is that people (the Brits) tend to ramble at a higher velocity than I can comprehend, I have trouble keeping pace with the conversation. I can be so much more articulate and conversational online because I can take more time to think and there's no face staring at you beckoning or despising you depending on the person lol

What I don't like is the presence of cliques on forums as they ignore what you say and make you feel invisible and not liked.

When I used to go on SPW years ago it seemed more mellow, don't know what happened, new people join and they are getting more cliquey..

I think im ok online..but im never really sure. I dont talk to many in private..I just post on forums really. Some people have said I can express myself pretty well....but i just dont know what to believe. :🙁: I just know that im really shy and awkward in real life...i dont know if i'll ever be able to live the life i want...just a queit life..but even that is scarey to me. :🙁:

I don't think I could be as bad as in real life, because I'm actually posting something on here.:😛: But I'm really anxious about chatting. I've been so afraid of it that I haven't given it much of a chance.. I face my fear like once in a while, chat for an hour or so but the anxiety is so high, I give it up again for another few months. 🙄

yep, should try to work on it as online is easier, but I never get around to it.

The internet may lessen my social idiocy but it doesn't make it disappear completely.

Online I can talk to boys that I find cute easily, whereas in real life I am really awkward and very shy. When online personal responsibility is lessened, and I don't fear the consequences of my actions as much. In real life I'm too scared to approach boys, because obviously I am scared of rejection. I also freeze up and end up sounding really unintelligent or just plain spazzy. Online is a more calm and anonymous setting that lets me gather my wits together, or say things I normally wouldn't say. Hahaha.

I socialize well online. But when I say that I am talking about light conversation.. I still have a hard time opening up about my personal self.
