I Got prescribed Oxazepam ( benzodiazepine) 10mg.
It takes the edge off, but I still feel anxious SA and I still get muscle tension for my GAD, I thought it would almost cure me, but it just takes only little bit the sharp edge off.

Is the dose to low 10mg or do I need another benzodiazepine ? ( is there any difference between the benzodiazepines ???)

Or im just a worstcasescenario .....

Hi,

There are lots of Benzodiazepines.

As far as I know, Oxazepam is the slow acting Benzodiazepine, meaning that it takes quite a while to get an effect.
It also has a short half life, around 4 to 15 hours, depending on individual.

It is indicated for management of anxiety disorders or for the short-term relief of the symptoms of anxiety.

The dosage for anxiety: 7.5-15 mg 3-4 times daily.
As for severe anxiety or alcohol withdrawal: 15-30 mg 3-4 times daily.

There are other Benzodiazepines :

- Alprazolam
It is used for Panic Disorder in higher dose.

-Clonazepam
This is also used for Panic Disorder, but I find it a bit "smooth" unlike Alprazolam which gives me a relief, by putting the tab under my tongue, as Panic Attack strikes.
Compared to Alprazolam, this has a very long half life of 39 hours, but again it depends on individual.

-Diazepam
This is the most common Benzodiazepine prescribed for anxiety, tension.
It has a higher anticonvulsant effect, that in hospital they always treat the patients intravenously.

- Lorazepam
This is known as Ativan. And used for anxiety. It has a half life around 12 hours, but it also depends on each individual.

Well, there are many more, such as Lexotan ( Bromazepam), Frisium ( Clobazam), etc

It is best if you could seek advice from your Doctor, as which Benzodiazepine he considers appropriate for your condition.

Kind Regards,
