Depression could be linked to sleep

I was watching a documentary on dreaming and I found out that when you're in the R.E.M (Rapid Eye Movement) stage of sleep, the same part of the brain that makes you depressed/angry/other negative emotions, is stimulated and people with depression tend to go directly into R.E.M sleep when they fall asleep, and stay in it. That's why I always have tons of super weird dreams (All your weird dreams that don't make sense occur during R.E.M.) and that's why I have a lot of trouble getting up in the morning..because I've just come out of a really deep sleep.

I don't know how to make this into a more "chattable" topic, but I just thought you guys might find the information interesting :)

Hmm I would say that they are both symptoms rather than one or another being a cause

It is sure interesting though

Yeah. I kinda wish that the true "cause" would be found so it could be cured lol. I actually like sleeping just because the weird dreams I have are more interesting than being awake lol. Except today, the dream I had when I took an afternoon nap left me feeling creep-ed-out all day haha

I experience vivid dreams pretty much whenever I go to sleep. I actually discussed it with my psych and she suggested that I seem to go into REM phase of sleep directly. Sometimes if I had a bad night with a really bad dream it can upset my entire day. I'm still looking for ways to overcome it, but I haven't found a solution yet. I tend to wake up feeling unrested despite having many hours of sleep. I also tend to act out a few of my dreams. I will wake up fighting and throwing punches because I am protecting myself in my dream. Fortunately I wake up when this happens and I'm still in bed, so I haven't hurt myself or anyone. Hopefully it stays that way.

I rarely remember my dreams, maybe a couple every year. When I wake up, I get the sense that I had just gone to sleep two minutes ago even though it was eight or nine hours ago. I'm a deep sleeper and it takes a lot to wake me up. And I never experience insomnia.

It would be nice to dream about beautiful things. People who can lucid dream--I'm envious because it seems like they're living another life.

The few dreams I do remember are unpleasant. Scary even. I'm either in an extraordinarily embarrassing situation where I experience intense feelings of shame, or someone I love is being murdered.
