coping strategies

Hi, just wondered about what are some of your coping straegies used out there for life damaging/altering senarioes.

Just last week for instance i was 'let go' of my short term job. I honestly didn't belive that i was actually going to live past this current hurdle given my past track record of keeping jobs meant that this was the 4th job id been given the boot from in total of my 29 years of life....i was indeed set to end it all in the event this would actually occur, the plans were set. To my surprise and credit tho i actually set inpalce a coping mechanism that truely saved my exisitance for the time being and here i am to tell the tale.

i carefully laid out a list of the positives to come out of being let go of this job:
no more early strats.
no more being put under stress everyday and having nightmares about deadlines and angry clients.
weekends free of worry and plenty of time to spend on my hobbies.
no more boring repetitiveness of daily routine and dealing with jo public.

i thought about these positives constantly and blocked out the negatives and together with an huge splurge on my hobbies i was able to overcome it.

yes thats right i partook in massive retail therapy and spent big in a couple of weeks due to the small fortune i had saved during my brief time employed.. this was quickly burned on my hobbies and i dare say it helped save my life in the end.

After eventually mustering enough courage to actually get out of bed...the retail therapy actually gave me inspiration to live on for the next day and the next atleast...and whilst i'll admit this is only short term relief and yes the money has now run out completley, it has served it purpose for now anyway...what are some of your strategies now?

You simply start over again. No kicking yourself, no staying in bed all day, no self doubt talk. If family or friends comment, admit to having a problem, let them know you are working on yourself. Then start working on yourself. Make goals and stay with it. Make small steps toward improving yourself everyday.
