If you're uncomfortable around them, chances are they're going to be uncomfortable around you

But I usually notice that people feel uncomfortable around me. It's a fact, I'm not making this up.

Chicken or the egg? 😀

True, and since I can't be comfortable around people, I'm screwed 🙂

Good question. Sometimes I feel comfortable, or think I feel comfortable, but even then people feel uncomfortable around me. Apparently I appear anxious even when I feel comfortable.

I don't see the connection between social skills and feeling anxious.

A huge part of social anxiety is fear of rejection and lack of social skills. If you had the tools to convey you personality effectively, in a way that had everyone laughing at your jokes and loving you, you would most likely relax and bask in the glow of their acceptance. 🙂

Women are, by nature, attracted to alpha male characteristics. Some of those characteristics are:

1. Connects well with people
2. Is well-groomed
3. Is seen as the social center of the room
4. Conveys confidence
5. Conveys a sense of humor
6. Smiles

I don't like the center of attention, social butterfly type.

As Neil clearly displayed, the tools can be learned, and looks are not the important issue.

You're kidding yourself if you think that women don't care about looks just as much as guys do.

Nope good looks aren't necessary to attract a beautiful woman. It's just important to be well-groomed.

You have to be AT LEAST average looking. If you're not then you have to have money to get a beautiful woman.

Nope that's Hollywood conditioning

There's no way a fat, bald, ugly guy is going to get a beautiful woman. They may be able to get a woman, but her she most likely is not going to be a looker.

You'd be surprised. You've never seen an ugly guy with a beautiful woman?

Males seek out females for their reproduction value. This is determined by physical beauty, aka signs of youth and health.

Females seek out males for survival value. This is determined by social dominance, aka alpha male personality characteristics.

Training with the world's best in a sport would definitely cost a lot.

BUT, many of them sell DVD's where they step by step train on how to things, including clips of their competitions where it's done in real life; the dating community lacks this important feature in teaching, namely, showing it being done in real life.

...

I recently made a post about my facial rigidity when making eye contact, if I can't have a normal conversation with anyone for more then a few minutes without that being a factor it is quite a leap to learning to be social.

I have a *ucking off the wall sense of humor many people find funny when I am "on", I have mostly noticed this at work(and with a good buddy outside of work) which is when I talk to most people, I develop rapport particularly one on one with females if I sit near or work with them long enough without someone else nearby that kills the vibe...situations like that do not come up in life where you are near the same person day after day unless you are already friends with that someone and hanging out with them.

Maybe Farley is onto something:

Sickjoke, the joke about the cock on the barn is from Carlin which is why I mentioned it: Why do they put a cock on top of a barn? Because if they put a c*nt up the wind would blow right through it.

ba da pa!

I've seen some pretty (and average income) ugly people with hot girlfriends. I know a super-extravert who looks a little like Alf (yes the alien/pig Alf), but he is an expert at charming the ladies. Bad-looks can be, for the most part, overridden by the ability to charm and a good sense of humor.

I'm not getting this from any source, but it seems to me like good looks are more important for men, than they are for women (in other words: it is more important for a woman to be attractive than for a man to be attractive)

SickJoke, you've probably said this before somewhere in this thread, but how well has the book worked for you? I've concluded by reading the first chapter of the book (I downloaded a copy from the Internet), and by reading reviews that it's probably an excellent book. But still, I'm curious to see what your social life is like.

You look like you are a decent guy with a strong character.
