Can we be pilots?

Life has a weird sense of humour. When nothing happens, nothing happens. When something does happened, they all come rushing to you at the same time.

I was woken up in the late afternoon from a call for a follow up interview with Prima LTD (giant flour production company). At the same time, i received a letter from the Air Force for pilot selection. Life's weird right? Two months back, i was never called up for any job interview and the pilot selection thing never came either.

I'm sure you can feel that my heart goes for that F16 fighter plane than primier quality flour. However there's always the hold back due to high percentage of elimination for pilot selection. And there's always that voice telling me that i wouldn't make it, plus in reality my memory and thought process have been affected. Poor memory, indecisiveness, low confidence and others.

Can people like us be pilots?
Or should i face reality and get a "real" job?

If you managed to be in control of a plane, maybe that would enable you to have the ability to control your life & thought patterns as well? Maybe the phobias would take a back seat?

I certainly hope so but ya just might be out of the selection with a small silly mistake.

Mind seems to be drifting away alot, making it rather forgetful and stuff. I wonder if this case will ever happen.

"Eh, you meant to tell me i forgot to drop my bombs on the enemy? Can i do a rerun?"

Yeah but don't you have to go to school for another four years or something? :?:
"Eh, you meant to tell me i forgot to drop my bombs on the enemy? Can i do a rerun?" ... "Eh, you meant to tell me i dropped bombs on our airport instead of theirs? Whoops I thought it was theirs! Can I do a rerun?" ... "Eh, you meant to tell me that i forgot that our airport is bombed? Ohhhh ok." LOL that ain't gonna happen! I think there's always someone telling you what to do.? Is there a copilot? I dunno...

BUT-- "normal' people make MISTAKES too, even when they are supposedly 'in control'. If you were controling a plane, you would be focusing on what needed to be done, I really don't think that you would be thinking about being 'too shy' to talk to the girl that works at the fast food place. Being shy or socially avoidant doesn't make us irresponsible screw ups, at least not that I'm aware of. Is that one of the symptoms?!

Yea I was just thinking that. Piloting an aircraft doesn't involve social interaction, so it really shouldn't make a difference.

I'm a screwup, but it doesn't have anything to do with SA. I wouldn't trust myself to fly a plane, but it has nothing to do with SA.

Hello, How bad do you want to become a pilot. Having social phobia/anxiety doesn't mean you can't be good at what you do. Most of us have problems with social situations, self confidence but many of us also have very good memories and are usually pretty good at doing things.

You wont know unless you give it a try otherwise you will spend the rest of your life wondering what if. They (airforce) will not let you alone in a plane if you are not capable of doing your job properly, that is why they do alot of training and part of the training requires spending time in a simulator which feels like you are flying a plane but you are actually in a training room. Be fair to yourself. If it is your chosen field then you will do anything to succeed, like study and learn all the things necessary and it is a well paid job. Do you want to be secondbest for the rest of your life as deep down you know you can do it, just depends on how much you are willing to try.

blanketmind u share the tranquility of driving.it never struck me that some of the peacefulness is down to the fact that u are out of the publicview.i suppose we feel safer behind the protection of the roof and windscreen.morew importantly though i feel driving is great because i can avoid looking directly at someone.when driving i feel like the most normal poerson in the world.my sp dissapears.it gives me hope and shows me how life would be without sp

Thanks for all your opinions.

I will eventually go the pilot apitude test definitely. No doubt about that.

Pilots do not have to socialise? Well that is if all the ground crew staffs, air force superiors and others are all robots. It aint exactly the socialising totally. There's always the stringent observations and expectations of people piloting such an expensive aircraft.

My counsellor tagged me with obsessive thinking. I dunno if that's making me more mistake prone, in a daze and have poor memory these days, which are employers of all fields are trying to avoid in their prospective employees.

You didn't ask, "Can pilots socalize?"

""Pilots do not have to socialise? Well that is if all the ground crew staffs, air force superiors and others are all robots. It aint exactly the socialising totally. There's always the stringent observations and expectations of people piloting such an expensive aircraft. ""

What you asked was:
""Can people like us be pilots?
Or should i face reality and get a "real" job?""

I thought your question was partaining to being in flight, not grounded, that's another opinion, which I wouldn't view my opinion on anyway--- that would be like trying determine the weather.... you may feel phobic, you may not..., but the answer is still the same for the original question...

People like "us' CAN be pilots, we can reach all of our goals with determination. Phobias are not PHYSICALLY debilatating. And mentally, they can ead to depression, paranioa, etc., but they are NOT the cause, or reason for mistakes.

BombCat,

Definately follow your dreams! If you like to run naked through the streets singing disco songs from the 1970's and throwing orange jello at innocent bystanders...then I would have to suggest red jello (That's my favorite flavor!)

However, stay with your passions. It makes life more fun and more of an adventure than a drudgery!

For people on life quests, you may win some. You may lose some...but either way, you'll have some great stories to share with others!

Take Care.

I was merely replying to Crimefish and your views with regards to the socialising part.

Anyway right now i think my mood's going way way down again and going mad. Sweet suicide is always floating by my mind.

Hang in there Bombcat... Don't let go of your dreams.

Consider your phobias/diorders as 'the enemy', and don't let the enemy win. Be determined to win and fight the enemy. If you fight back and do/use contructive things as 'artillery', you will find your have a better outlook.
