Battles in our mind

I fight with my thoughts at times. I think we can all relate to this. You are in a situation where you start getting anxious and the thoughts come.."They are all looking at you..they are judging you..they think you are wierd.." Etc.
I have learned to talk back to the thoughts, to argue with them. To "battle" them..I say, "no they are not. I am not wierd and if they think that it's just because they don't know me.." I don't just accept what I hear in my head anymore as the truth. And it helps me a lot.
The anxiety goes down. But when I would agree w/the thoughts and let them take over..it got much much worse. The panic escalated and increased.
I am a Christian and it also goes w/my belief's to do this, I can almost see the eyes rolling everywhere.. but I'm sorry, this is my personal belief and I'm just sharing it, you don't have to agree w/me or even like it, its just helped me that's all.
The bible says this "Let it be done to you as you have believed.." Matthew 8:13 and "whoever would love life and see good days, must keep his tongue from evil.."1 Peter 3:10
There are more scriptures but basically it says that we should watch what we think and say. It's important and we create our reality with our words.
The book "Battlefield of the mind." by Joyce Meyer says this: "Positive minds produce positive live's. Positive thoughts are allways full of faith and hope. Negative thoughts are full of fear and doubt. Some people are afraid to have hope because they have been hurt a lot in their lives. They have had so many let downs that they don't think they can take one more.
Therefore they refuse to even harbor hope anymore.
This type of conduct establishes a negative lifestyle. Everything becomes negative because the thoughts are negative.
Start thinking positively about your life. Practice optimism in each situation that occurs. Even when what is happening in your life at this moment is not good, expect for God to bring something good from it, as He has promised in his word." Excerpt from the book.

Hello Worrydoll..well hopefully I will be calling you: Happydoll soon? :)
I'm glad it cheered you up a bit. I posted it because I noticed sometimes we have a tendancy to be a little negative on here, (including me) but it just makes it all worse, so to encourage us to be:"the change we want to see in this world." I don't know who has that as a signature but its true!

Very good post Mary.Wise words. :D

It's something I need to do more of but for me it has a lot to do with automatic thoughts.Thoughts that I don't even realize i'm thinking untill after the fact. The thing is I have to catch them when i'm having them.Which is not easy though.

I really need to think more positive about things. *sigh*

Septor you just need to see yourself like you see other people, you are very supportive and kind of others on here. Try to do the same for yourself as well. If you were giving advice to someone in your same situation what would you say? Then apply it to you. You deserve the same kindness you show others on here. :)
We all need to learn to be kinder to ourselves..
OH and about the thoughts, when they come, after they come, disagree w/them..you don't have to catch yourself midsentence, just catch yourself..that's all. Sometimes I think we are our own worst enemy, but if that's the case, its an enemy we need to fight at first and then make our friend..

Mary, your words are absolutely right on the mark. Yeah, why don't I give myself the same supportive attention as I do others? I rarely take care of myself emotionally. One piece of advice that my therapist gave me years ago was to parent myself. However, I never do it. I nurture my children, my friends, colleagues but I always forget about myself. I do deserve the same support as I give others, the problem is actually believing it.

Mary,

I suffer from those same irrational beliefs.

You did a great job describing them.

I also have real battles inside my head comparing all of the evidence that I'm somewhat normal and healthy with all of the evidence that I am weird or different.

I am a little older than most of the people here, it seems (36).

My self-esteem has really suffered from the loss (failure) of my technology company from 2001 until now.

I fear that noone else has had as much unhealthy stuff go through their head and that I'm somehow damaged goods as a result.
