Are people insensitive?

Do you find that people are really mean or insensitive to you about your social phobia? Like they think you are beneath them?

At work today the phone rang and the guy who sits behind me answered it and he said something that I found really hurtful and I had to stop myself crying all afternoon, he told the person on the phone that if they ring and someone doesn't answer it's because and I'm quoting him here "There's only like two people in this office and one of them can't answer the phone" and he was referring to me and he said it in this retarded voice, it doesn't sound like much but it cut deep. Plus he rolled his eyes at me when I did something for no reason, I just hate people who make smart ass comments about something they know nothing about (and on an off topic, I got told not to worry about answering the phone because I'm only a temp and the only phone calls we get are about peoples accounts, which I know nothing about)

People will take advantage of you if they can away with it. My guess is he was just trying to blame you for his incompetence.

yeah Emma, some people are just plain insensitive...and some have no understanding of what we go through and are insensitive, as a result...either way it feels horrible

Sorry about how people treat ya :( I was also a victim of being teased or mistreated of anxiety especially since high school before it was my turn to speak there were a few students who look at me then make a chopped head (thumb across the neck) gesture at me before I speak which i thought was cruel and when I say something in a uncomfident voice and i know they clearly heard it, they still ask for you to repeat what you said just to play with you :( . After high school its been ok and not being teased about my anxiety. It still happens but rarely. Hope things get better with you though.
