"Safe" Ways for a Social Phobic to Meet People: Unitarian Universalism?

I am wondering if there're any Unitarian Universalists (UU's) on here and if you found the UU church welcoming and comfortable enough environment for a social phobic like me? I'm an atheist, but I am looking for that "community feel." I'm thinking of visiting a UU church in my area but I'm terrified people won't accept me because of my beliefs. I know they accept people of all walks of life, but maybe these are my own insecurities playing against me.

I was just wanting to know what yall think. Thanks!

I've heard about Unitarian Universalist churches before (In fact, I used to live not far from one.), but I have never been to one. The only church I've ever been to was a non-denominational/Evangelical Christian one. I was dragged to a service there by some friends. Otherwise, I haven't stepped foot in a church for anything other than weddings, funerals, and graduation ceremonies.

You could try it. I don't classify myself as a Unitarian, but I've heard that these kinds of churches are pretty accepting. I remember that the one I used to live not far from had on their sign a bunch of different religious symbols on it, for all different faiths, so I don't see how an atheist could be treated any different. Keep in mind that every church is different, though. While one church might work for one group of people, it might not work for another group. Try it, and if one place doesn't work out for you, then you could try another.

Hope this advice works!
