Reminder of how great glyco is!

Yesterday I had a little medical procedure in the morning. So I didn't take glyco, or any other med beforehand. Also it was nicely cool.

In mid-afternoon I walked up the street--it had turned bright, warm and humid.

I'd forgotten how disgusting and slimey "sweat head" is.::(: Spent years of my life like that. Glad I don't have to.

Sometimes I think (hope) that my HH will go away. So far, not--so glad I found out about glyco!:)

Medication should always be thought of as a band aid, not a cure.
A lot of medication simply stops working after several years because your body will learn to work around it. You have to increase the dose to get the same result, but once you reach the highest dose that is safe, you have nowhere else to go.

It's possible that the glyco will work for a long time yet. That would be great. But it's important to think of it only as a temporary band aid because like many other medications, it's quite possible it will lose its effect after many years.

After 6 years, I have not increased my doses and the med has not lost its effectiveness.

Better than a bandaid, though indeed NOT a cure.

Then that's great, I'm happy for you. Some people get lucky. Others might have a different reaction to the drug. I've read about some people who say
it has lost its effectiveness over time or it works better some days and other days not so much. I hope it will work forever for you, but it's possible that after 10 or 15 years it will stop working as well. Hopefully that won't happen though.

How much do you take? 4mg in the morning on an empty stomach? How long does it last for you. Is it still working at 9 pm or does it lose its effectiveness after more than 8 or 10 hours have passed? Do you take Avert from pharmacy.ca or Robinul from the US?

In 10 or 15 years, I'll probably be dead.

Yes, 4 mg on an empty stomach--on the worst hot & humid days, increase to 6. It usually does last all day.

I use Avert from pharmacy.ca, live in Toronto where they make it, so just go to their standing pharmacy.

Glycopyrrolate is not a cure but I don't think it will lose effectiveness over time. It's really food intake that has a major impact on the effectiveness of Glycopyrrolate & routine etc.

If you feel like Glycopyrrolate is losing effectiveness, a few days off will kick it back into action.

Very reliable drug. Providing relief for many Hyperhidrosis sufferers.

With relief there's hope. Glyco is great.

Probably be dead? Why? Are you 70 years old?

After taking it for a few years with mostly good results (for palms and armpits) it stopped working for me altogether. Not only that but the dry mouth and dry eyes (seriously) were brutal, so there was no use in me taking it anymore.

I used to be the biggest proponent for Avert (I might be the first person to have tried it here and shared my experience) but was heartbroken when it stopped working. But I am happy to see how it helps so many people on here so I can't really bad mouth it.

Dougy--I'm really sorry glyco quit on you--my worst nightmare! I hope you are finding some relief somehow!

This is why I said what I said earlier. I know that for a lot of people, medical drugs lose effectiveness over time. Some get lucky and can take it forever but for a lot of people, taking medicine regularly makes the body adapt to it and it loses it effectiveness.

Did you take the medicine on a daily basis for several years? Perhaps taking a break will get it going again? I think some type of on and off cycling is necessary for most drugs.

Hi, when I was taking it during high school I did it for every school day and for college only 3-4 days a week. Still the results wore off and the terrible side effects stayed (my eyes would get so dry it would be hard to keep them all the way open and I'd look like a tired zombie). Even with the dry mouth and eyes I would probably still be taking them if they continued to work.

I don't think I'll try them again (I still have a full bottle minus only a few pills that expired Jan. 2010 so that should tell me something about how I liked them.).

I am incredibly happy to see how many people its helping on here though. I'm just going to keep looking into topical ointments (I wish someone would respond to my lazerformalhyde thread!) and maybe botox for the short term. I will admit that when Avert worked and side effects were minimal it was such an amazing feeling to have dry palms and under arms.

Hi sportsfan8,

Is palms and armpits your only problem associated with HH?

I don't know your history with trying solutions for HH, so forgive me if you have already tried, but have you tried Driclor? I personally have generalised HH but the 'bad/hot' spots are palms, soles of feet, armpits, lower back and forehead.

My palms used to be very wet that I had to wipe them before I interacted with people or left a wet mark when holding onto a rail on public transport etc. With Driclor, I put it all over my palms for a week and for about a year now, they hardly sweat. 90%+ improvement and I only apply Driclor about once a month (so I could get even better results). Armpits I know Avert had almost 100% but Driclor does reduce the sweat up to 70%.

Before Driclor for my armpits, I used to sweat at home even I'm completely relaxed, doing nothing and the room temperature is below 20C. When I was out or exercising, the sweat would literally drip down my sides and if I was wearing a T-shirt; big wet patches under both arms.

So as you can see I did have it pretty bad but now with Driclor, I don't sweat at all from my armpits when I'm at home and when I'm out and/or exercising, my armpits are just a bit wet but no more dripping. T-shirts still get a little damp spots at times but a big improvement.

As for Avert, did you try taking a couple days break or even week before taking it again? You can even mix it up with taking Ditropan or Pro-banthine (alternative anticholinergic drugs). Also food intake and when may differ the results of Avert and what dosage you are taking and when.

Would be surprised if Avert 100% completely stopped working.

Hope this helps.
