Hello everyone,

My name is John and I am a fourth year psychology student at Deakin University in Australia (Melbourne). I am doing research on social anxiety. I am investigating social anxiety, cognitive biases and individual differences in personality. I have included a brief summary of my research and the link to my survey. This research is totally voluntary and anonymous. I would greatly appreciate it if you completed my survey; Do it online, it takes about half an hour.
Thanks in advance,

Best wishes,

John

People with social anxiety fear being embarrassed or appearing foolish in social situations. They often experience biases of judgement, such as believing negative evaluation is more likely than it actually is. Both social anxiety and the related biases of judgement have been associated with systems of the brain that are thought to influence people's personality. I am investigating whether systems of the brain first generate the cognitive biases that then lead to the social anxiety. Better understanding social anxiety may help inform prevention and treatment strategies for people with social anxiety.
