Letters of Recommendation

I have no idea how to ask for these. I "know" my teachers, but I'm not their "buddy" (I have never talked with any of them about anything non-School related, due to my EXTREME Social Anxiety problems). Asking for a letter of recommendation is a huge favor, and I don't think any of my teachers like me enough to write me one. I got all A's, and good SAT, but I probably won't get into any school (other than a community college) because they all seem to require those goddamn recommendation letters.

Also, I'm really scared of the teacher rejecting my request; I would feel so embarrassed. Ugh, this is killing me, I wish society was more understanding towards the recluse.

PS: I've never even met my guidance counselor (I moved cities), so how would I go about asking for a letter of recommendation from her.

I would say just ask them for one. It can sound more easy than it is and I know it is hard for you. But in college and when you get a job after college, you will have to do things like these a lot of times.

I expect your teachers are professional so it is not a matter if they like you or not. If you got straight A´s and a good SAT, then your teachers should just pull their fingers out and make you a letter of recommendation. I dont see it is a huge favour. It is a part of their job to get their students into the best possible college for them.

You could write her an email requesting for the letter.

there's no reason for your teachers to reject you. Just send them an email or something.

its in their best interest for you to get into college. if it makes you feel better phrase it, "im filling in applications for college and i need a rec from blank number of teachers. id really appreciate it if you could write one for me'. stating it as a necessity works better than, will you write me a letter telling me how great i am? you need it, its their job to give it to you.

Where do you live? The UCs here, the best public universities in the state, don't need letters of recommendation. I suppose if you're aiming for the Ivy League, it's a different matter, but you're certainly not destined for community college without them.

Thanks for your input everyone. I feel a little better now. I forgot how much I love this site.

Why not ask the teacher you feel you can approach the easiest who you can get to write you one. That way they will probably volunteer to write it and you will not have to worry about rejection.
