Is Staring at the Ground Always a Sign of Anxiety/Shyness?

Ok I know this woman and I am attracted to her and I think she knows it. I told her I liked her hair(trying to be polite and start conversation) and she kind of mumbled out "thanks". I wasn't looking at her at the time though. My back was to her, so I didn't see her body language. She's married though. I'm not looking to have some affair with her or anything, I just want to be friends. Anyway, whenever she is in the same room with me, she will look at the ground all the time! She talks to other people, but not me! Is this a sign of shyness or could it be disgust?

thanks

Shyness, I believe. Or at least, give her the benefit of the doubt. Assume it's shyness and don't push too hard. But I think it is.

If she's married she could think that you're trying to hit on her, and therefore is avoiding you.
A comment about someone's hair could be mis-interpretated, so just make it clear to her that you just want to be friends.

Yeah I thought about that but I kind of said it in a way and context where I was just being sincere and polite. I was looking the opposite direction when I said it too and after she said "thanks", I didn't say anything more.

She was avoiding me before this and I didn't say it in a way that was like I was hitting on her nor did I stare at her or follow her or anything. I was just trying to initiate conversation and be polite. Also sometimes in the past, when I was by her we had this awkward silence thing and she didn't look at the ground, but she wouldn't say anything either.

I would think she would just look the other way or something, instead of staring at the ground if she wasn't shy.

I dunno.... I hate having to be PC all the time. I don't know why men can't say polite things and have them taken out of context.
