Is Robinul For Me?

I have been a HH sufferer since 10th grade, so about 7 years now.

It has SEVERELY impacted my social life and I'm completely fed up with it.

As soon as I start sweating even the slightest, my anxiety kicks in and causes it to go into overdrive. It's mostly my face and back, which makes it incredibly embarrassing because nearly every time I sit in a car I'll leave it with a wet back.

Doing some searching I came across Robinul as a possible solution, however I have some questions that I was hoping you all could answer.

-How dangerous is it if I'm going to be in a hot environment? Does it stop sweat 100% or will it still allow me to cool off? I'm completely OK with sweating if I actually have a reason to, i.e. at the beach or in a dance club.

-How long do the effects last? If I know I'm not going to be in a situation that could cause sweating, is it OK to not take it for a day?

-I am in the U.S. Can it be purchased legally and safely online, or must I go through a dermatologist?

Thanks for the help!

I can answer one or two of your questions. You can adjust dosage, so that you can sweat when it's OK (I do this with gym class--take some because otherwise my sweating is ridiculous, but not so much as to prevent sweating entirely.)

You can stop taking it,or reduce dosage, when appropriate. There's no real buildup, so no problem with stopping/starting.

I'm in Canada--went to the pharmacy who makes it here--they contacted my doctor since glyco can affect blood pressure. So there's that--maybe best to check with a family doctor or derm in case there's a good reason for you not to take it. It IS medication.

Good luck!

Hi trd1985,

1. Robinul is not very dangerous. If you are in a hot environment, make sure you stay hydrated and keep cool. Robinul will not stop you from sweating 100%, the body always finds a way to cool down. However, if you take an amount more than you need, you may feel very hot and dry and thus making you feel ill. As a guideline, 8mg is the maximum dosage per day and 4mg is the maximum dosage taken at any one time.

Like margiehope said, once you find your right dosage of Robinul, take less when you are going to be in a hot environment and are okay with sweating a bit more than your desired sweating levels.

2. Robinul can last up to 12 hours but the oral bioavailability of Robinul is low and highly variable. Food intake can play a major part in how long Robinul lasts. Generally, Robinul will last between 2-6 hours before another dosage is required. As everyone is unique, you will need to see what works best for you.

Definitely okay to not take Robinul for a day.

3. Robinul (Avert) can be purchased safely and legally online. pharmacy.ca - Canada's internet pharmacy are very professional and supply Robinul (Avert) in different amounts. They will even do a online consultation to make sure Robinul will not clash with any other medical conditions and/or medications.

It's always best to check with your GP/local doctor before taking new medications.

As you are in the U.S., you may be able to get Robinul made up locally and save you the cost delivery and waiting time.

Robinul is a safe drug, give it a go and good luck.
