Hypnotism - a cure?

Has anybody tried hypnotism. It seems like a 'magic cure', too good to be true. I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned here.

If anybody has any experiences, please relate!

yeah, it works!

2 weeks ago I bought 'Paul McKenna's Supreme Confidence' CD and already I feel much better. Within a week I noticed changes, you start to feel happier throughout the day and more self-assured, which makes it easier to talk to people. I will keep listening to the CD every day, and will keep you posted about the results.

I live in the UK though, so I don't know if the CD is available in the US..

I used Paul McKenna's tape and felt quite relaxed but unfortunately I was too lazy to keep listening to it! I did start to see a Hypnotherapist which has worked wonders. He uses NLP which is Neuro linguistic programming.
For those of you who have never heard of this it slightly different from just being hypnotised, because while under this method you are still aware of your surroundings and can come out of it yourself at any time.
There are books you cna get on NLP and tapes. I would really recommend tapes but you can use self hypnosis and NLP on yourself. If you discipline yourself everyday I think you would see some noticeable changes.

I had hypnosis for my social phobia. It was pretty intense - I cried my eyes out one session. It didn't cure me, but it substantially lessoned it.

(My big success was striding in to a posh restaurant to have a meal with a dozen ex-workmates. I was late and I hadn't seen them for months, so usually this would have been a no-no.)

Unfortanately the effect disappeared after about six months, and now a year later I'm proabably the worst I've ever been. I can't even go out in daylight, other than to work.

Maybe I need another round of therapy...

The only way to experience any improvement is to spend the money initially to take some lessons of hypno-therapy to learn self hypnosis. Thereafter it is up to you. If you want a change .... do it every day. Like sex when you are young. I am 47 and I know what I am talking about. Stick to it, make it a way of life and you can erase the negative experiences of your childhood....Don't make yourself wait until you are 47. But what is this grandpa saying????

There aren'n magic cures. Hypnosis is the SP persons' fantasy to obtain a fast and easy cure by their problem.
In world, only with very work and perseverace can obtain the thing.
Hypnosys can help but no finish with SP. I think so!
But... if you know an hipnotizador (man that use hipnosys) that can to cure my phobia... advertaisement to me, please. I would like try.

Realize to that not everyone can be hypnotized - I know I can't (though one therapist wished to convince me he feels otherwise - essentially to protect his reputation). I suspect that SPers fall heavily into this category, largely due to their excessive self-awareness.

As I understand it (from those few I've talked with who've been through it), if you can't account for a certain amount of time in the session, you were probably under hypnosis, at least in the classical sense.

These comments are purely anecdotal and my personal opinion and experience. While we're on the subject, what about EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing)? It's used mainly for PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), but PTSD (imho) is often closely related to intense SP.

me

I tried the hypnotism during some time but this only managed to relax me very much.

later, i tried with psychoanalysis and everything in my mind was more complicated , then I left it.

2 years later, i tried the emdr therapy and was so well for me.

good luck

i tried the mckenna mp3 from his website. Works pretty well, feels strange if you take the time to actually use it. It has some strange effect on you when you use it, not sure it has helped my anxiety but it definatly helps chill you out if your struggling with anything.

Interesting that you brought this up.I've often wondered if any Sp er has tryed this with any success.Personally I am one of those types that could not be put in a hypnotic state so it wouldn't do anything to me.I didn't even know about Paul McKenna's web site until you guys mentioned it.So I downloaded the MP3 and gave it a go.Certainly does not induce any type of trance like state in myself, but if you go with the flow it is certainly very relaxing.I found I had to do it in complete darkness and for a better effect with headphones otherwise the slightest noise would distract me.
But I am thinking it can't do any harm to pump some positive thoughts into this negative mind, and I'll continue doing it each night for some time to see if it has any effect on my daily thinking. But I really do think our SP minds do need a huge amount more of positive input, and far more regulary than a normal person. And we need a lot more social stimulation than we think we need.I'm sure SP feeds on isolation.Which means my SP has been dining out at least 3 times a day :)
So I really think if there is a positve stimulation that helps your condition without drugs it must be of some good to you.
