How did you tell people?/Advice for telling people

So I'm curious, how did you tell people you have OCD (if you told anyone)?

For the two people I've told so far, I just kind of blurted it out. Needless to say, they seemed weirded out and we haven't really discussed it since. It's driving me crazy and I really want to tell my friends why I am the way I am.

We've had a friend who had OCD really bad back in high school, but everyone just avoided the subject because he was in pretty bad shape for a while. This kind of shows me that they wouldn't really know how to take it.

Oh, all my friends are away at school most of the time, so I only see them maybe once every two or three months.

Any advice?

I never told anyone I had OCD, I find it hard to speak to most everyone because of social phobia. The only person that really knows is my mother because she's the one that took me to the psychiatrist that told me I had OCD and Social Anxiety Disorder. I don't think I really needed him to tell me that though, it was clearly obvious to me that I had them. My advice is to not tell anyone you don't feel comfortable with telling. In my case, I don't feel comfortable with telling anyone because it would lead to further conflict most likely. They'd probably look down on me and think I'm some kind of a freak.

i told my friends and they are supportive, but i think they think of me as a lesser now. i told another friend (or who i thought was my friend) recently about my problem and she asked me "so like.. are u retarted or something?" (at that moment i could tell that she got wierded out). and that just made me feel like shit, no joke. i quickly changed the subject and now i think she forgot that i even told her about it.............. shes pretty bad with memory
