Gimme my money...now

I'm curious how all of you are supporting yourselves financially.

And for the ones who are unemployed, like me, or working like an underpaid, under-appreciated indentured servant:

doesn't it seem like capitalism no longer favors hard work and talent, but more of reputation?

I seriously can understand why people steal or start selling drugs. You do what you have to to survive.

Finally, considering what we have to overcome to even interview for a job, or even making a follow up phone call and now all the CEO's in the world are getting rich while paying us pathetic wages to do their hard labor.

And wouldn't a country be great if it instituted a 'heartbeat salary'

(A check sent periodically to each individual just for the sake of how irreplaceable each individual is)?

It would just cover the bare essentials like food, shelter etc. No need for excess, and it would be your choice if you want to make more money if you wanted.

What do you think?

What you mention is called a mixed economy, something that takes positives from both socialism and capitalism. Sweden has a system like that. However, convergence theory predicts an overall trend of capitalism growing more socialistic and socialism growing more capitalistic.

It favors all of those characteristics, but it just so happens that since there now exists such a great pool of overqualified applicants, employers can set standards that appear to us unreasonably high. For instance, if 50 people apply for a job and 10 of the people have a comparable resume but a more advanced degree, those 10 people would be chosen (given that they agree to work for the same amount of money as the other applicants and don't demand more for their qualifications -- hence, they are overqualified).
