Depressed because i can't interact with people how i want to

I spent time with a girl i like. She was flirting with me and i couldn't flirt back. All i could do was ask her questions. She was very bubbly and nice the whole time and even giggled at my awkwardness. I just couldn't keep up with her playfulness. It's sad because i know if i asked her out she'd give me the "you're a nice guy but...." speech. I'm just a cute little autist to her. She would never see me as anything more.

I'm just too inhibited.

Being more outgoing takes practice, especially when you're used to being an introvert. Maybe next time you'll be more playful, or at least have more confidence and thus be more open in that way.

I dunno man, he seems to have indicated he's autistic.

I actually think there is a lot of hope for the non-autistic folk with social anxiety.

I have, unfortunately, less hope for those guys who are on the spectrum. In this case, it is not just a kind of anxiety based upon unfortunate life experience/rejection.. it's also a result of a neurological difference.

Autistic guys don't just have one or two things going against them.. typically, they have everything. Women may forgive a lack of social panache if you're one of the lucky few.. super high functioning, independent, highly paid as an engineer, etc. But autism often strips those paths away, too, leaving nothing left to offer. (Studies show that the "genius engineer" stereotype is an exception, not a rule.)
