Career Conference

I had to go to a career conference today for my school. It's basically where you just go into a big room and there's tables for a lot of different companies set up, with people who work there at them. So you can just go around and network and get information about certain companies and possible jobs or internships they have for students.

I wasn't doing very good at first. I was just walking around the place and freaking out at the thought of talking to any of the people. Like I almost had to call my mom for a pep talk or something to get me ready to talk to people. lmao. But I had written my introduction on a piece of paper and I had wrote down a list of some companies that I could look at that would be good for my major, so I had to go off to the side and read over my papers to try and get myself ready to talk to people. I was seriously walking around the place for atleast 30 minutes before I was able to go up to a table and talk to someone.

I only talked to 3 people, but that's definitely better than nothing and I was glad that I didn't just leave and give up when I was freaking out when I first went there.

Also, I saw a cute guy who I always sit next to in my English class in there and we said hi to each other and stopped and talked for a few minutes.

So, I wasn't as successful or feeling as confident as I was hoping for, but I still think I did good.

Thanks Paul! :D I hope I can keep feeling confident too. It's definitely hard cause it's like one minute I'll be feeling great, but then one little thing will happen and my confidence will be smashed. But I've been trying to act more confident lately.

"freaking out at the thought of talking to any of the people"

Instead of freaking out, why not say to yourself "how exciting is it going to be to talk to a bunch of interesting people that will potentially be my employers?"

or ask yourself... "how much can i learn from this experience"
or say to yourself...."I'm going to enrich my life today"
or say to yourself...."I'm going to have lots of fun, enjoy myself, and meet great people"

etc...

I've noticed that you use "try" a lot in your writing. Try assumes failure. Use a more positive word that implies certainty.

instead of "I will try to write a good paper" say "I will write a good paper".
instead of "I will try to talk to a cute guy" say "I WILL talk to a cute guy"

Hey I know that feeling all to well -- although that can feel really discouraging, remember that it's easier to get back to where you were if you've done it before already. Whatever that expression is, like ... uh ... the peak is easier to climb the second time or whatever the hell it is :p
