Can Social Phobia cause vision problems?

I have been suffering from social phobia for about 5 years now, although it has become more severe in the last 12 months. I have noticed that when I am in a stressful situation that my vision seems to blur.

Has anyone else had this problem? Maybe I should just get my eyes checked and it's nothing to do with my SP??

Thanks
Paul

Yes it can. Happens to me too. But if you can, you should probably get your eyes checked anyway. Better safe than sorry, right? :)

I didnt mean SP itself can cause it, but stress can. But i do agree to go see a doctor anyway if you can.

Man, I get that a lot, I can totally relate. I don't know if it's blurring. It's like when you're drunk and you can't see clearly, not that the image gets distorted, just blurred. I don't have eye problems whatsoever.

I ran into things, I tripped many times, my classmetes called me clumzy  cos i used to hit different objects when moving or walking because my vision blurred. i still do.

many times i got close to be hit by cars, cause i couldn't see them comeing, good thing i was grabbed and pulled back by the others

and all of this happened only when i got really anxious, it still happens, it's like you're blind :x

Yes, stress and anxiety can definately affect your vision - not permanently but just as an after effect. It's part of the fight or flight syndrome that occurs when we're stressed - release of adrenaline etc, as part of the process our vision sharpens which then is followed by blurred vision for a little while. Nothing to worry about

Do you ever find your hearing goes a bit too? I often feel that, a sort of surreal feeling as if i'm not really there, everything kind of goes a little quieter. Not able to focus on what's being said or retain info, following conversations, it's so horrible

yeah, it feels like you are underwater and can't hear clearly, but it's just the anxiety, don't worry

i lose almost all my senses when i'm anxious, i'm deaf, blind...

Yes it can 100% stress and anxiety can effect every part of the body - but as always get a test to rule out any serious medical probelms.

I get those zig-zags and floaters alot..usually when I look at somthing white, the loosing hearing part is the scaryiest for me, but usually that doesnt happen unless I had trouble sleeping the night before.

I get those sometimes too. I also sometimes see random flashes of light. I don't really worry about it too much though (maybe I should?). There is also this squiggly line thing (I don't really know how to describe it) that I can see stuck in my eye sometimes. I first noticed it when I was just a little kid, so I'm used to it. Sometimes when I'm really bored, I try to find it and move my eye around so I can watch it move across my field of vision.

My eyes really suck... (I can't even read the text on the computer screen if I lean back to where I am three feet away from the monitor, yet I don't wear my glasses unless I'm driving or I need to see something on the board or TV screen at school.)

Sorry that my post made absolutely no sense.

I get blurred vision too. I thought it was the meds, but reading all the other replies perhaps its not.

Heres to clear seeing.

I have this blurry vision sometimes but my doctor told me it was stress & getting up too quickly out of a chair, even though it can just happen when Im standing up and not doing anything.

I see random flashes of light and also white & black orbs lots of times. I also feel Im being watched in certain places of the house.

I know what your squiggly line things are that you are seeing. I see these myself too, and were told by an optician that these are called floaters. They are perfectly normal & most people have them. They are the dirt or something that floats around in your eye!

I highly surgest to anyone that has floaters in there eyes and random flashes of light to go to a Optometrist right away.It could be a sighn of Retinal Tear or Detachment which can lead to blindness. Not always but better safe then sorry
