Aromatherapy or other suggestions for SP during Pregnancy?

Has anyone tried aromatherapy? I don't think aromatherapy alone will do very much but it might help a little bit. I can't take the supplements I was going to try because of my pregnancy but I kind of need them more than ever w/all the doctor appointments I'm going to be going to..I have avoided doctors like the plague and have become an expert at home remedies because of it.. But I am having to face my Sp head on now w/the pregnancy and one of the suggestions I read in my prenatal book was to use aromatherapy to help you relax, they suggested lavendar oil. I hope it works.. :? At least a little..Or does anyone else have other suggestions that I could use..(keep in mind that I am pregnant!) :D

Hi Mary,
First of all......Congratulations :)....you must be so excited...

Have you ever tried yoga? Its really good for relaxation..& also during pregnancy it helps to keep your body strong as it changes shape.
If you are not used to practicing yoga though...only do very gentle stretches & make sure you only do those which are suitable for pregnancy ....there may be some suggestions in your antenatal books...or try online at sites like 'babycentre'
Walking's really good too...same thing....helps you relax & keeps you strong..or swimming.
Lavender oil is good...especially later on if you get back ache...get your boyfriend/husband to give you a back rub with lavender oil..it helps you sleep.

Take care of yourself :)

I find geranuim very relaxing, but I don't know what aromatherapy oils are safe to use during pregnancy.

One quick google later....

http://www.birthjoy.com/books.html some books on this site about pregnancy massage which might help, and also emotional factors of pregnancy

http://www.ivillage.co.uk/pregnancyandbaby/boards/0,,,00.html This is a whole list of pregnancy boards that are on ivillage (a fabulous site with message boards for everything a female could ever want to discuss lol). Most people on ivillage are lovely as well, and give great advice :)

Thanks so much crazyfairyx and blubs! I didn't know there were oils you should avoid during pregnancy! 8O Thank you crazyfairyx for telling me about that! I just went and did a quick scan through of one of the sites you listed and it seems to have a lot of good information, so now I will go check it out more in detail.. :)
Oh and blubs: thanks, I know I need to be doing some sort of exercise unfortunately I never did before and now I am so tired all the time..but I think I will just have to start out really slowly.

Hi Mary,

congrats with your pregnancy!

I don't know if you already have your baby, because we are already 2 months further than your initial post, but I'm a recent new member and thought to mention about Bach flower remedies. Some remedies are really helpful to relax, like rescue remedy. I read on the site that it's safe for pregnant women, but they advise you talk with your dr or midwife if you would have any worries about it. (As for the alcohol, the small amount that you take when you take a remedy should not be a problem - although again ask your doctor if you are in doubt.)

Here's a link for the pregnant family about which remedies to take: http://www.bachcentre.com/centre/pregnant.htm

I also have some other links for pregnant women if you like to avoid doctors, etc..

I forgot that the trustbirth.com site has some PDF-links

Just wanted to mention that since I always find that irritating when I click a link and to my surprise it's opening a PDF-file :x
