hello.im a 28 year old year old male from london with social phobia/panic attacks/anxiety/depression.i have had it pretty much for 10 years, but there where moments before that.i mainly started getting panic attacks at 16 and this made me retreat from life.recently i have made a lot of improvements, but there are still many situations and barriers to beat.i know it takes courage and perseverance, but what i'd like to know is can anyone advise me on medication that can take the edge off paranoia and panic attacks.what imean is that i get these panic attacks sometimes when dealing with people which involves severe self consciousness and very heavy sweating from my head and face, which is very embarrasing and destroys your confidence.i have tried many anti-deps and valium xanax etc,but the anti-deps feel like ive taken ecstacy, and make me very anxious,i feel very sensitive to the effects and the valium etc only kinda works for a few hours but then you feel drained and knackered.so does anyone know of medication that takes the edge off your nerves and stops sweating. thanks for your time

Medications

Hi ericcatona,

You've said you've tryied anti depressents. I don't know what you've tryed, but many of the ssri's are'nt as severe as far as side effects(if you find the one that works well for you) and have taken the edge of my anxiety in general. You might see about a higher dose w/ your doctor. A combination of a beta-blocker and a drug like xanax seems to help with the more physical symptoms such as sweating, and light headedness .... Maybe you have tryed all of this, but these seem to work.

a little help..

Hi ericcatona,

I'm also from London..I had my first panic attack back in December last year which was pretty bad. Then two more attacks about two weeks ago. I went to my doctors and now I'm taking something called Atenonol, I've only been on them for two weeks and it seems to be helping. They are not an anti-depressant but more of a beta blocker. Like Zach suggested perhaps you should try taking these?.. Also have you heard of Bach, rescue remedy spray? its a natural remedy which you can get in any chemist. When I start to feel anxious or my heart rate speeds up, I spray this on my tougue and seems to calm me down. Maybe its more of a psychological thing but its worth a try huh? well i hope you start to get better and overcome your fears. If things keep getting worse for me, I might start seeing a therapist to help me. If you don't mind me asking, are you seeing someone? perhaps it will help a great deal..theres nothing wrong with getting a little help..
