The Zen of Listening- mindful communication in the age of distraction (Shafir)
If you are serious about getting help- and helping yourself then read on:
I am socially awkward-- normal people would probably call me retarded- I get lost in my thoughts and i forget all the things I learn about communicating--
This book is incredible--- it is by far one of the best self-help books I can recommend. Here are a few notes i took from the book:
- Mindful listening is more than just words but the how and why of people’s views
- Perpetuation of self-directed put downs limits the range of opportunities we allow ourselves to achieve
- Getting to know our personal barriers and the energy we waste trying to reinforce them is the next step in becoming a better listener
o When I encounter a barrier I discuss it aloud with myself
It also talks about being in the moment- and the advantages this has for truly experiencing ( AND NOT WORRYING). It also talks about getting into another person's 'movie' in order to listen effectively.
I got it from the library but am ordering my own copy for reference--
If you actually get out there and get it, let me know what you think
