Lots of people chew their nails. That's not anything uncommon. But I've come to find out recently that I'm not alone in the gross habit of gnawing at the skin around my nails. According to wikipedia the behavior is called Dermatophagia and is also an ocd. Which was news to me. I thought it was just an oral fixation. Of which I don't associate all with ocd. So, I just wanted to put it out there for any who were unaware, or felt isolated by the habit. As for my own personal experience with it, I'm a nail biter. When the nails are widdled to nubs, I go for the skin. And I'm not even aware I'm doing it. 95% of the time I'm not even conscious of it until it's already done. As odd as that sounds. It's difficult to stop when it's more of an unconscious habit/reflex, but there are things that can be done: applying nail polish, for starters, is a good deterrent I've heard. Though I'm weird enough already, I don't need to add nail polish to my list, ha ha. Anyways, there's your ew moment for the day. You're all welcome.
