Your Values & Beliefs

By values and beliefs I mean the 'rules' that you intrinsically live by, the 'rules' that are a part of you and your way of living. Let's hear 'em from you. It doesn't matter what they are, I want to hear them. Here are mine:

1) Fight for your friendships & relationships because they mean something to you, because you believe in them.
2) Do your best in everything.
3) Want the best for yourself.
4) Be a positive influence to others.
5) Beauty on the inside, beauty on the outside.
6) Be fair to others.
7) Do the right thing.
8) In love, his happiness comes first.
9) Love unconditionally.

I know you all have some. And if you don't, you're not thinking about it hard enough. Only post when you've got something!

10) Live in the now, detached from past and future.

i think that should be number one.

my rule would be: no rules. this is something that i keep reminding myself whenever i get rigid or make mistakes. life has no rules. any restrictions i put on myself would be limiting my potential - things, ideas, information that i need to learn would elude me. i need to be flexible and open-minded about the most radical and outrageous ideas if i am to figure out anything in this world.

Your number 9 - unconditional love, is a very important one that I agree with a lot.

I don't understand, and disagree with, petty fall-outs between people who are supposed to care about one another. People annoy each other sometimes, it happens, see it for what it truly is and if you can - resolve it and move on.

Some people seem to enjoy the drama - to fall out, to insult one another, to argue, but the truth is, it doesn't matter if you walk away as the one who made what you thought was the best point - the fact is, you were low enough to allow it to get to that stage in the first place. There are no winners in hate.

Edit: I have other values too, I will add them at a later point :)

Ah yes, it's very important not to be dragged down by troubles from the Past or worries from the future. But actually, it was the Past that reminded me of what kind of person I wanted to be. I had lost sight of my values and belief, and therefore lost sight of that part of myself, until now.

my rule would be: no rules. this is something that i keep reminding myself whenever i get rigid or make mistakes. life has no rules. any restrictions i put on myself would be limiting my potential - things, ideas, information that i need to learn would elude me. i need to be flexible and open-minded about the most radical and outrageous ideas if i am to figure out anything in this world.

I think that is interesting, to associate having rules with placing limitations on yourself. If this is what helps you to achieve all that you want, that's good. But, personally, I cannot live by no rules because it doesn't give me a sense of direction in life. My rules are there to keep me focused and on track to fulfilling the life I want.

5) two wrongs don't make a right

But 3 rights make a left.

I've never been one to start fights or have petty fall-outs with others, and this has served me well in my friendships, but at the same time I was never one to stand up for myself. Loving unconditionally would therefore also have to apply for myself. It is very much linked to my being fair to others value. I want to be fair to others AND myself. That way everyone goes away less angry and less petty.

- Be supportive and loyal to the ones who love you.
- Make people smile.
- Be yourself. If others don't like it they can deal with it. Never change who you are just to fit in.
- Never drink, smoke or do drugs, no matter what.
- Be friendly, be tolerant, be patient with others, but never let them walk all over you.
- Respect other people as long as they respect you.
- Follow your own advice.

a good friend will always be there for you when you screw up.

but a REAL friend will be sitting in jail beside you saying "damn! that was fun!"

Can you give an example of this?

- Never drink, smoke or do drugs, no matter what.

I used to be like this back in my teens. Then I decided it wouldn't harm me to try some alcohol. It was all out of curiosity. I'm still not interested in making it a considerable part of my life though. But I do seem to have a preference for wine.
