Your approach to music?

So what are important key elements for you in the music you listen to? I recently thought about it because my taste seems to go in a rather "pointless" direction that not many people get, which means that for me a certain atmosphere is often much more intriguing than what's actually played, no matter if it's super aggressive or rather soft. Here's an example:

Headcase - Basilisk - YouTube
Headcase - Stratford Space 82 Goodbye... - YouTube

Pretty different on the first look and not that exciting, but from the same artist with a sort of abstract approach I really dig.

I used to feel a lot for melodies too, but somehow got tired of the formulas in most songs, so I switched more and more to instrumental and electronic music that's more about subtle harmonics and atmosphere. Glad that you could enjoy the tracks btw, Headcase described Space 82 actually as one of his most precious ones. Surprised me a bit, given how minimalistic it is.

Aye, ah've moved more towards instrumental music over the last few years, masel', for the same reasons. Post-rock, jazz, classical. Y'know despite no' being that into classical or jazz when I was in my teens. Heck, ah even listen tae bagpipe music. :giggle:

Plus, most bands nowadays suck, except for a few good ones.

But, ah'd say melody is still a key element for me with some of bands/artists I listen to - mainly ones usually actually have singers.

I like music that matches my emotions at the time; it can be from a variety of genres, but I do prefer non-mainstream artists and I like finding new music
