You might be socially anxious if...

...you learned to walk very quietly
...you hide and pretend that you're not home, when having visitors
...you have your mobile phone just to see how much is the time
...you talk in the group very quietly and stay speechless when asked to speak loudly

(as a teenager)... if your parents ground you by not letting you go out for two months, but it doesn't change anything in your life.

... if your goal at a party is to arrive as late and leave as early as possible without being rude (or noticed).

... if you don't know the names of either of your next door neighbors - and you've lived in the same place for years.

... if you finished college over 2 years ago (with a Master's degree) and haven't even applied for a job for almost 2 years because the thought of having to come up with references (can't think of any) and explain why you've been in minimum wage jobs without advancing even a little ties your stomach in knots.

... if you don't know that someone is hitting on you unless they make it really obvious... and even then, it doesn't register until later- "Why did he want to borrow my phone and put his number in it? Oh..." *doh* "Too bad I never call people... "

Hey great thread idea lurknomore :)

... if you pretend to have face blindness, when in fact you never, ever forget a face, and thus pretend you weren't aware that someone you know just walked by.

... if you take a longer route when walking to avoid bumping into people you know.

... if you feel great about yourself as you're leaving the house to go out, but return home feeling really depressed and full of self loathing.

... if you start avoiding the person you have a crush on (as opposed to pursuing them) ::p:

You might be socially anxious...

...if you spend more time talking to people on the internet than in real life.

...if you have more friends on the internet than in real life.

...if people always think you look pissed off/upset even though you have a normal expression.

...if you leave your phone off all the time in fear of having to answer a call.

Oh, God, I feel so related to all that... and I've only read the first page of the thread::(:

.... If you never answer the phone.

... If you don't walk your dog until it's dark and when everyone's asleep.

... If you are more social on the internet than in real life.

Why is that when I see someone I know I almost wish that I change into something else hell even if for a second.

I do it too. Dont know why though.

You might be socially anxious if...you need to pee in the middle of class but hold it in instead of walking out in front of the whole room.

If you have troubles doing things in front of people such as being watched whilst you work.

If you procrastinate

If you are highly sensitive especially to judgment

If you see a lot of good qualities in others but not in yourself

If you criticize what you have said in a conversation and think later I should have said this or that.

If you feel panicky in social situations and always assume the worst outcomes.

If you faint when shaking hands with a stranger

If you have to walk out from a job interview because you can't breathe

If you'd rather stay home than go to the greatest party of the century

If you never answer the doorbell

If you'd rather have a dog than a girlfriend/boyfriend

If you vomit each time someone gives you a compliment

If you'd rather be dead than get criticized

If you'd rather have an under-payed job as long as you'd work alone than a highly payed job where you'd have to be around people

If you'd do anything to get into solitary while in prison

If your idea of hanging out with friends is to chat with people online

If you'd rather live your life in Azeroth than the real world

If you'd rather wet yourself than go to a public toilet

If you'd rather take a cab than a bus

...you avoided getting an oil change (or putting oil in the car) for 9,000 miles because you were afraid the guys at the car place would criticize you for going over the 3,000 miles recommended, and ended up having to get a new engine for the car (even more embarrassing than getting an oil change at 3,500 miles...)

...You can't make/maintain eye contact with people.
...You rehearse scripts in your head before speaking, and try to anticipate what other people will say so you will know how to react.
...You dread greeting your coworkers every day. When and how you say "Hi" is an everyday drama.

when you call in sick to work, you make sure to do it early, before anyone's there, so you can just leave a message without having to speak to a live person.

-freeze like a deer in head lights when someone knocks on the door LOL
-would rather take a bullet than go to a party (sheet I have to go to one tomorrow night!)
-have a regular fantasy about living alone (or w/ a very special someone) far far in the mountains never seeing anyone else for months and months.

oh so ever true, i dream at times of living in cold snowy hills, in a warm log cabin with all the modern essentials of course, just me and my special someone reading a book/watching tv/movies/videogames/cuddling by the warm fire at night, as the wolves howl in the distance....

...you pretended to be using the toilet in a public restroom just to get out of having a conversation with someone.
*insert fake potty noises*

i've done that for class if i get there too early and people are outside the door/inside socialising, i run to the bathroom and just browse the web/this site on my itouch LOL

pahahah! gross.
...I suddenly feel so ashamed. -___-

...you pretend youre busy messaging or talking on the phone and even have fake conversations LOL

^me when waiting for food at fast food restaurant, or in social interactions where i run out of stuff to say so i excuse myself using the "friend calling" tactic XD

Also, when you manage to get a girls phone #, are still stunned for hours if not days later that you managed to accomplish such a relatively impossible task, and start freaking out about what to do next :/

when you get multiple fb event invites, and start formulating excuses on how to skip one or the other

start panicking when someone doesn't answer your text

purposely scan and search for a secluded area/corner in any given room/environment that you enter

prefer texting over actual face to face interaction, and dread having to "hang out" with the few individuals that you do manage to text well with.

think anything anyone says is either a lie or trying to test/mock your character/social skills, and look down on you before even talking to you.

overanalyzing every single text sent/received

the following conversation never transitions smoothly...

other person: hello "x"
you:hello "y" how are you?
other person:I'm doing well how about you.
you:I'm also well and you?
other person:....
