Would people reacting differently be a treatment?

Does anyone else ever feel that you wouldn't have half of the anxieties and issues if people didn't label you the quiet one etc. everywhere you went?

I think for me, because of the way my SA is, that would actually maybe be the ultimate cure. I only get SA symptoms and feel it when i know people are soon enough going to point out that I am so "quiet".
However, I know that if no-one pointed it out and everyone kept talking to me the way they talk to everyone else, it would only be a matter of time before I open up. Because the more I feel like a person is on my "level" and not intimidating in any way, I open up alot more and feel so much more comfy. If I never seemed different to anyone or atleast gave me the impression that I wasn't, I wouldn't be different because they would be seeing past it in my view, therefore there would be no more room for it to exist. if that makes sense.

This is of course a moot point, as we cannot change the perceptions and views of others, but I just thought id comment on it, cos its like freedom is so close yet so far away.

For sure!!!!!! I wish being quiet was considered "normal". Things would be a little bit easier for us...

Yeah, I agree with what you are saying totally.

Reminds me of a self-help thing I read ages ago:
It said that, act the way you want to be, even if you don't feel it. Soon others will treat you that way and it will become real.

So in other words act like like a confident, happy person and the way others act towards you will reinforce your identity as a confident person - making it real and easy to sustain. Just as you say, those people who label us 'quiet' ones, reinforce SA, making it hard to break free of the identity. Because of what SA is - this phenomenon is more powerful than it would be for any other socially given identity.

.....however, doing it is easier said than done unfortunately! :(

Maybe that's the problem, maybe everyone does this naturally in some way, and SA's feel like fakers doing it.
What I mean is - maybe some people think nothing of act like someone they are not - maybe they model themselves on someone off tv that they admire - and just manage to get by in the world as people respond nicely to this.

(hehe I'm sure there's more to it than this like - don't think that I think I've solved SA). But I honestly never 'act' though really. Apart from acting like I don't care if I get insulted, but this is just ignoring really isn't it? What a ramble - hope it makes sense.
