What RELIGION are you?

Are you guys atheists, Agnositcs, Buddhists, Pagans, Muslims, Christians, Jews, Taoists, or some concoction of your own?

I am a Neo-Platonist, which is a kind of classical Greek Paganism. I grew up a Christian (my parents are missionaries), but now my only interest in Christianity is in shutting it down (as a part of my own missionary efforts to convert people to Neo-Platonism.

What about you?

I don't belive in religion but what's a neo-planist out of curiousity?
It is natural religion -- the theories of God-man relations developed by the Neo-Platonist philosophers -- Iamblichus, Proclus, Prophyry, Plotinus -- based on their readings of the metaphysical works of Plato. It basically teaches that divine judgment is corrective and that his punishments correct, transform, and heal, integrating humanity into the "One" -- God.

It teaches that there is no heaven, no hell, no divine penalties for the violation of the divine law, no Christian atonement, no living forever -- just an eternal world where all humans are the students, and God is a wise teacher whose wrath transfigures us. Divine judgment is pedagogical. This is why we believe that Christianity is a noxious theory -- it teaches humans to avoid the very thing that would most bring them to joy -- the operation of God's infinite judgment.

Such an understanding of divine judgment is particularly helpful for people with social anxiety disorder, and this is why I think all people with social anxiety disorder should become Neo-Platonists. But my approach to Christianity is like a bull in a china-shop, I admit.

I just think that this theory that there is a divine penalty for the violation of God's law that God would render upon the non-believing sinner or Christ as his substitute is the most mind-twisting cognitive system that has ever been devised. It just makes me furious to think of how many lives have been blighted by the chain letter that we call the Bible.

My religion is Baha'i.
It believes in the Oneness of all religions and that all religions came from one God.
It also believes in the oneness of humanity.
I like unity. and the idea of World Peace.

I'm right now attending the Unitarian Church...but not really sure where I want to be. Very spiritual; confused about place in the religious world.

"Questions of God" by Dr. Armand Nicholi takes a neutral position. Freud (atheist) vs. C.S. Lewis (atheist turned believer). The book basically puts each others' points of view against each other. That book for me holds a lot of meaning. It changed me or maybe it just reinforced what I already slightly believed. I used to think that religion was only for the uneducated. But it is so inspiring to hear brilliant scholars that have faith. I think it brings up some really great points I never thought of.

I used to be christian, until I became blinded again by the temptations of the world. But I have to say that my belief in one Almighty God has never been stronger.I think to deny his existence is pure foolishness and I would hope that those people who deny it would see the light before it is too late.People who deny God and his existence are simply fulfilling the prophicies in the bible where it says in the last days men will worship false Gods and follow false prophets etc.I'm sorry Zipper , but to refer to the bible as a chain letter is laughable. It is not just a storey book but a manuel for which we are to live by.I highly recommend people at least read the book of Proverbs alone. If you then think that the guy who wrote the proverbs (King Solomon) was an idiot I would have serious concerns about your mentality. If people in the world listened to and abided by what was written in this book then the world would be a far better place.I don't want to get into a religious debate.I don't need to justify my belief in God.I don't want to mince words.God is a jealous God and he means business.John 3:16 says: For god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son (jesus) that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. Its really that simple.Acknowledge to God that you are a sinner, ask for his forgiveness and let him into your heart and you will recieve the gift of eternal life. And its absolutely free.I know I need to do it all over again. And he will help you. He'll help you through your SP.You only have to ask for his help and believe in him.I certainly don't want to be standing in front of God on judgement day ever wondering why I was worshipping elephants/cats/planets or whatever. And what about the murderers, rapists and the hitlers of this world. If there is no God then there is no judgement and no justice for the victims.I would be very interested to know why so many people with christian parents are turning against God.What triggered it ? What went wrong ? Today the world seems to be dead set on disproving God and his existence and blaming him for everything that is going wrong.Remember that we still have the ability to choose and make decisions in life. But it seems like we just don't want to take the responsibility when we stuff it up.Food for thought I hope.Cheers Guys & Girls. :)

no god can help us because there is no god. If theres god, then its your soul and only you can help yourself, nobody else. All the stories in bible are bullshit, i know how it all happened. Example, maria didnt become pregnant from the holy ghost, she became pregnant IN the holy ghost, and this holy ghost was a flying object - nlo. It was artificial insemnation. And jesus was genetically iproved man or a hybrid. You have to understand that in that time people didnt have such knowlege and when they saw something unnatural (as flying object) they thought it was something holy

Consider the following in a court of law:
"The defendant is guilty. I cannot provide any evidence what so ever of this claim, but that is not necessary because I and many others strongly believe he is guilty. I need not justify this. My claim is self-evidently true, and anyone claiming the opposite is just as self-evidently wrong. Any evidence to the contrary can safely be ignored, because I know I'm right. It's as simple as that, so the accused must be sentenced to prison. The prosecution rests its case."

i consider myself somewhat nihilist, but i think that there are nice things about every religion tha ive heard of or read about. to me, since everybody has their own beliefs, our reason to live and their religions or philiosphies are all different. I dont deny any religion, i just settle with believing that the reason we live is whatever our own reasons are. religion cant really be proved or disproved though.
