What is "The Ego" and "True self"

The trouble is, in most countries these psychedelic drugs are illegal. Getting hold of any is almost impossible.

Yeah, pretty ridiculous. Still can't believe marijuana isn't legalized in the states. It's like a repeat of alcohol prohibition. :kickingmyself:

This Time Magazine article you cited, Miserum, relates directly to what the OP was discussing:

“It was sort of like an anti-inflammatory for the ego,” says Brian, a 50-year-old scientist, who participated in the research (he declined to reveal his last name). “The swelling went down and I got to see what was underneath.”

Ah, it appears it does. :)

I want to try more psychedelics. I really do. But things like:

"There is a weak association or link between one time use and chronic psychosis. However, some research does point to the fact that LSD can precipitate or trigger a psychotic episode in persons predisposed to schizophrenia or bipolar disorder."

and:

HPPD(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallucinogen_persisting_perception_disorder) are really preventing me from committing.

Are psychedelics the same as hallucinogens?
A couple years ago i was having hallucinations, due to a medication, lack of sleep, & anxiety. They weren't anything spectacular, just hearing voices & noises, & seeing lights.

I´ve heard that taking shortcuts into mystical experience can lead to more problems than it can solve.

Introspection may remain the safer but longer route. Things like meditation, healthy eating habits, self-control, healthy friendships, having a dog, reading, avoiding excessive and addictive sensory stimulation, the presence of a guide.

I kind of agree. You ALWAYS "pay" in some way for taking a shortcut, ANY shortcut.

I wouldn't look at things that are here naturally as "shortcuts" in reference to Psilocybin mushrooms helping one to have a life-altering experience(s) that helps a person to "Shed the Ego".
I also would add that they are more like an "aide" similar to how an automobile aides one to drive to the doctor and work, or eye glasses aide ones eyesight.

Flashbacks-Yikes...yes everything in moderation

That was the cool thing about TM is that he said he would only eat mushrooms once maybe twice a year. He got enough from those two experiences. I respected that he was someone who wouldn't glorify and make it look "cool" to try hallucinogenics. Unlike Learly and the Dead etc..And like Silicon Valley is doing which I find kinda lame. If it becomes main-steam and popular it is usually not for the right reasons in my findings.

If it were up to me we'd all hardcore Ayahuasca trip in the jungles of the Amazon, puking our guts up and shitting our brains out for three days straight. That'd learn those SV moguls some reverence!
